Landslide at Phuket bridge unrepaired after five weeks

The temporary repairs carried out by Rassada Municipality.

PHUKET: -- Landslide damage at a bridge on Pracha U-Thit 5 Rd close to the Escape de Phuket residential property in Rassada that reportedly happened five weeks ago has yet to be repaired, leaving local residents scared that the bridge could collapse.

Although Rassada Municipality have made efforts to shutter the landslide to prevent the damage extending further, it is clear from photos that a more permanent solution is required.

Speaking to The Phuket News, Phudit Raksaraj, Mayor of Rassada District Municipality said, “After I found out about the landslide at the bridge I went to have a look.

“We have now had a meeting with the Department of Rural Roads and they are waiting for a budget to be allocated for them to fix the problem.

“As a temporary measure we have placed wooden sticks in the soil so that it will not get bigger. We have also put a warning light and sign at the approach to the bridge.

“However, I am worried about the bridge when it rains and advise people to drive carefully.”

Those in authority need to be held accountable for the injuries or deaths caused by their negligence in these matters. Not just give some s#!!tty lip service about how sorry they are after someone dies from their negligence, then finally fix the problem after it's too late.

the elements of negligence is unbelievable in this country, the corrupt officials put all the money in their own pockets and risking lives off people, that was happened to poor Molly , the villagers told the council for a month that the hole is getting bigger every day, they put a tree branch and left, charged them for murder and putting peoples lives at risk.

The sink hole was o month old when the accidents happened and this 5 weeks, not expect anything to happen soon

Plenty of budget for statues, signs and other worthless things, but not for safety. Not much money to be siphoned off for safety ( well, not as much).

If there is no explanation for the "failures" described beyond "political failure" or "lack of money" I suggest keeping very quiet !

Failure in another country is not an excuse for failure in Thailand (or anywhere else either).

The idea is it doesn't need fixing until someone dies, and only if the locals, or foreign media complain about it. Then, and only then, does it get fixed, in order to protect Phuket's "image" for the tourism industry.
