US sim card for Lenovo Yoga 8 Tablet

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a Lenovo Yoga 8 Tablet with DTAC Internet service that I have been using in Thailand. I am now in the US, and I want to use the tablet here for about a month for Internet, and if possible, as a phone. I went to a Walgreen's Drug Store, and they had some sim cards on a rack, but neither they nor I knew whether one of those cards would work in my tablet.

Can someone tell me exactly what I have to ask for and what kind of shop I should go to to get a sim card for the Internet and also so I can make and receive phone calls.

I do know how to remove the sim card that is in it now. I just don't know what to buy to put in its place. I only need it for about a month, then I am returning to Thailand.

Thanks a lot.

Tom

DTAC operates it's 2G/3G on the 850, 1800 & 2100 frequency spectrum. I'm not sure about 4G-LTE. According to it's website, T-Mobile can provide 3G on the 2100 spectrum but only 2G on 850.

You need to look at your tablets specs and see which bandwidths it supports, then do a bit of Googling to see which US carriers support those bandwidths.

There are many pre-pay options in the US. You need a provider that is on the GSM network, not CDMA. (AT&T is GSM, Verizon is CDMA) You can order a SIM and service plan via Amazon and have it waiting for you.

Since the OP is currently in the US, just walk into a AT&T store and ask them

You really don't need people in Thailand to tell you what to do

I got a T-Mobile Sim card. Thanks for the suggestions.

Now I am trying to get Google voice app to work, so I can receive phone calls. I get a message "Can't verify your phone number." Any help with that?

Can your device make/receive phone calls, or send/receive SMS?

If not, you'll need to put the SIM into a working phone to activate the Google Voice service for that number.

Google needs to validate that you posses that number (can respond to either a phone call or SMS from them) before you are allowed to use that number for call forwarding, or port the number as your Google Voice main number (two different things).

Are you trying to use Google Voice "Service", or the newer Hangouts Applications?
