Bank Admits Fault in Gold Buyer’s Counterfeit Money Charge

Featured Replies

Weerachai Apichattakul was questioned after he had purchased gold worth 180,000 baht with a fake 200,000 baht bank note. The man withdrew the 200,000 baht from the Kasikorn bank the morning of the purchase and regularly buys gold and trades it.

Mr. Weerachai states that he paid for the gold and returned home to be with his daughter. While at his home, he received a call from the shop where he purchased the gold stating that there was an issue and he must return to the shop.

When Mr. Weerachai returned to the shop, he was met by police who were at the scene. Thankfully, the bank took blame for the counterfeit money. An employee stated that Mr. Weerachai did withdraw money from the bank and the counterfeit bill made it into the bank’s possession without notice. The bank states that errors do occur and that the staff has been told to be more diligent when accepting money.

Mr. Weerachai states that he will not press charges against the bank.

All of the charges have since been dropped. The bank has paid Mr. Weerachai the money he is owed, and the gold shop has been rightfully compensated for the purchase of the gold.

only staff writers are allowed to see these kind of notes tongue.png

In another thread yesterday it stated it was a single 1,000 baht note. It also stated the bank said it may have been given at the time the 200,000 cash was withdrawn.

The dopey picture of 100 USD notes really helps clarify this report.

"a fake 200,000 baht bank note" Another ex-ESL teacher has found a new job. Writing for Thai visa.

What an idiot writer claiming such a thing as a 200,000baht note. I have to agree with cgphuket on this one. Jacob Maslow should be ashamed of himself.

What a horrible and embarrassing news report!!! "fake 200,000 baht bank note"???

At least on this one, the mods can't tell folks to direct their complaints to The Nation or similar... because this one has a ThaiVisa byline on it. Heck, it's even copyrighted as a ThaiVisa article.... Yowzers...

The 200,000 baht note does exist. I have many. They are difficult to change at a 7-11 though, and I would be willing to let mine go for 100,000 baht each, in small bills please. Meet me in the alley behind the pharmacy.

You got yours from the same guy I did for 100 baht each? whistling.gif They are very rare and collectible and many TVF members should be happy to get them for 1/2 face value. coffee1.gif
