TRAVELLERS will be able to fly from the UK to Hong Kong from £75 one way, plus taxes, from today as a new low-fare airline takes off.

Oasis Hong Kong Airlines will initially run four flights a week from Gatwick rising to daily flights by November using Boeing 747 planes.

On board there will be 81 business-class seats with 278 people in the economy section.

Free food will be offered during the flights or passengers can pay for an 'upgraded' meal.

When the airline announced the new service in July, chief executive Steve Miller said the carrier was looking forward to launching flights to more destinations in the future.

He said: “Business travellers as well as consumers are increasingly price-conscious and I believe we have an individual business proposition that not only delivers on price, but offers passengers a flexible and high-quality service - a term not often associated with low-fare travel.

"Our innovative offering looks set to change the future of long-haul travel to and from Asia."

This is a very good point.

If we compare with Thai Airways. Their 747 have :

-10 seats FC

-40 seats Business

-325 seats

total :

Oasis = 359 seats

Thais = 375

So actually, the "revolution" with Oasis is : fly business class for the price of eco class with other airlines.

For short haul, nobody cares. But long haul like UK/HK, well that's really an improvement.

Just to remind you : business class with Thai Airways, Paris/BKK = 2600 euros.

Looks good - just went through the booking system and was offered two return business class seats at £940 each (2 x 470) plus about £260 in taxes. Let's hope they last the course!
