Hello and Sawasdee khrap,

I'm only doing my former school a favor. They're seeking a native English speaking teacher immediately.

Starting salary will be 30 K, paid for 12 months, plus expenses for visa and work permit will be reimbursed. You'll have the Thai SS security, 750 baht will be deducted from your salary.

The school is really in the center of Ubon, you can easily get around by using Songtheaws. ( Pick Up taxis)

You'll teach grade six, 18 hours a week, it's also possible that you'll have to teach an hour grade five- nine classes- and an hour grade six.

You should be between 22 and 45 years old, but if you're a little bit older, please forward your application to me.

There might be an additional hour on the last period of Friday, a so called English club for grade six students.

The school won't pay for the first visa, which you'll have to obtain in Laos. A degree in any field is mandatory there's no way in Ubon to hire you as a trainer, etc...

If you're interested, please send your resume to me, I'll give you my e-mail and phone number. Hope to see/hear you soon.

Free lunch on campus is provided, not yet sure if there's an accommodation available. Good day.-wai2.gif

Have you ever thought about contacting a reputable volunteer organization in Thailand that provides English teachers? You know the ones.. a 2 year length of service, learn about culture and language in return for teaching.. sponsored by govts.. If the school meets the requirements.. could be a possibility.

MOE...a place to start? who knows... years ago many organization were in Essarn.

Cheers

A possibility of 28 classes a week?

Since you are so unhappy at the school you went to, have you asked about going back to this school?

If not, is it a NES or a 'face' issue? Just curious.

Nope, sorry. 18 hours/ week. Eventually two hours per class grade six. ( They have nine classes now)

Or 9 hours on grade five and nine hours grade six. Plus one hour English club on the last Friday period. Makes it to 19 hours.

When I worked there, I had a nice house on campus. I see it like a native American....., don't look back.

I've just signed a new contract and Khurusapha isn't the right place for me to go now. They had a post at ajarn. com, but the guy who did that for them is more interested to bring some more cousins, brothers and sisters,etc.. in. Just saying.

Nope, not really. I've posted this here, because I won't do the ajarn hing for them again. But thanks for mentioning.

Are you not the same guy which posted the ridiculous post regarding the 20000b job offer for another school. Why do you continue putting yourself in these predicaments.

My Thai step-daughter has just finished her Teacher training course and is looking to start work, preferably in the Pattaya area. Her specialism is very young ones. In the UK, every teaching job was listed in the Times Educational Supplement. Is there something like this in Thailand? I've heard disconcerting rumours of under the desk payments required to secure a teaching job. Is there any truth in the matter?

I am the same guy, the 20 K position is already taken. I've just received a phone call from a great ex- colleague, asking me for help.

This is just a job offer and I don't think that I'll have to explain why I'm trying to help somebody Thanks for your consideration. wai2.gif

Are you the same guy that posts nonsense posts on a legitimate job?

Give the OP a break. It is clear that he is trying to help fill a position. The job isn't bad for that region.

Her best bet may be to try private schools. I'm not sure how government schools recruit. And why Pattaya? Living costs will be higher there. As she is Thai, I assume she will be teaching Thai subjects. More demand for science/maths, across the board. I've also heard of under the table payments, but think that mainly applies to government schools. If she has good english skills, should can push that as an asset, especially in english/bilingual programs with have foreign teachers.

Let's assume that she lives in Pattaya for quite a long time. What do you mean with a "Teacher training course?" I'm lost, sorry.

Usually for Thai teachers, they select which province/district they want to apply for and then sit an annual test, the highest scores for that district are then allocated to the number of appropriate job openings.

As a result new teachers will often select the areas where no one else wants to work (e.g. Way way way out in the countryside) to increase their chances of finding a position.

Once they've secured a position, they can request a transfer after x years (I'm not sure how long it is). However the school they want to transfer to has to approve their transfer, this often involves money paid under the table or simply being on good terms with high ranking staff at the school.

Yearly contracts can also be secured at schools, these usually pay peanuts (The teachers in this position at my school earn around ฿8000 per month), but sometimes require under the table payments or contacts within the school.

Of course some schools will simply take the best candidates which apply for the job, but a bad candidate offering to pay the school the equivalent of 1 or 2 years salary is looked upon very favourably lol.

Private schools will advertise their positions, I'm not sure specifically where though. Some private schools threaten to fire their teachers if they take the day off for the govt civil servant exam. As civil servant positions are generally considered to have higher job security, more benefits (govt pension + healthcare + easy finance) and a higher long term salary (Although often a lower starting salary).

But if you'd like to discuss this more, please open a new thread so that this one doesn't go off topic :)

Thanks for your interest. The reason my step-daughter (Thai) is looking for work is to be near me & her mum (we live in Bang Saray). She attended a College course of 5 years duration which involved a year's placement in a village school in Surin. Her English is the usual Thai-taught gibberish so useless in an international school. She sat an exam locally (surprisingly at a Catholic school in Sri Racha). I don't have much faith in her ability to pass this as she's charmingly a bit dim.

I have been advised to open a new topic but don't know how.

Most positions, as Sly had already mentioned, have to be "bought."

Positions at "better schools" can easily be 400 K. But also most directors buy their position. A good Thai friend wanted to work in the city where she lives, but they wanted 400 K.

She was so upset with her own system and continued at the smaller school in a village.

I just found out that there's a relatively new job offer at ajarn for the same position.

Between 35 and 45 years old? This statement isn't true. Can't believe that the add's written by an Asian English teacher.

I start to understand why the HoD phoned me to find somebody. It seems that the resumes of interested people never find their way to the Thai head teacher.

Please page me, if you've applied for the position, but never received an answer.

The guy who wrote the add has been teaching there for more than five years. Quite understandable that they need a NES teacher.

P.S. The job's still available and comes with accommodation.

What a country where teachers are expected to pay a couple years salary for the pleasure of working. Awesome.

It is shameful. Does the General know about this? How can a person educating the next generation of Thais be able to teach ethics/honesty/fair play when he/she has gained the position corruptly. Does the bribe money go to the school to buy aircon or into the Principal's holiday fund. Is there a hotline/email parents/students/teachers could complain to?

Thanks, mate. And the job comes with accommodation, free lunch and no hidden surprises. I really don't get it that nobody seems to look for a job in Ubon.

The city is fantastic, the job damn easy. facepalm.gif

I've edited out a link. If you want to search for the ad, you can do so :) However, please don't discuss the other advertisement here, as there is some negativity starting to creep in which may start to flirt with a line which can't be crossed (re: racism/defamation).

There should already be enough information in the thread for interested parties to decide whether they'd like to pm the OP for more info or not.

And Mikebell, to open a new topic, goto the teaching in Thailand section where you found this thread, and then click on "Start new topic", which should be in a black box in the upper right corner when scrolled all the way up (or bottom right when scrolled all the way down).

And yes I'm sure the general is aware of how the system works, as I've heard they use a similar system they use in the army and the police.

However for more discussion regarding this, your best bet is to talk to your wife (Or post a new thread here, but if you do, please try to find an appropriate section for it + read the forum rules first to ensure you don't put us moderators into an awkward position http://www.thaivisa.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules )

Someone took a job for 20K? Talk about having low self-esteem.

I almost mistook it for corruption, but I heard a very few other members say that thing was weeded out since 22/05/2014.

Or an overseas income stream and a lot of self-esteem, combined with a lot of free time and the desire to help and educate. smile.png

You obviously don't qualify.

A degree in any field is mandatory there's no way in Ubon to hire you as a trainer, etc...

This mandatory degree requirement must really be holding back:

The students.

The schools.

People that want to teach and are good at it.

A mandatory TEFLTT (Teach English as a Foreign Language To Thais) Cert - The Gov could even run and profit off it, and criminal check etc. should be made the requirements, easy WP's and any Visa extended for the length of contract. Done. All three of the above would benefit greatly.

The OP will chime in soon. Please reply at will before this thread gets closed on OP's request.

Got great news for you. Found a plumber job in Alaska, but they prefer Dutch guys. Free Igloo, two reindeer and a nice sleigh will be yours. You can even use it to play Santa.

When can you start? My provision is a Vanilla Flaa, delivered to Sisaket.
