BANGKOK: - Representatives in seven provinces have demanded that the Department of Special Investigation to accept as a special case their latest complaint that hundreds of them have been contaminated by heavy metals from gold mining activities.

They also submitted an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha voicing their opposition to the granting of concession of gold, quartz and iron ore mining in 11 provinces across the country.

The group who claimed to represent villagers in Phichit, Petchabun, Phitsanuloke, Nakhon Sawan, Loei, Saraburi and Lop Buri which have been affected by pollutants from gold mining activities rallied at the DSI on Thursday to submit their demand to DSI chief Mrs Suwana Suwanchutha.

Their latest complaint followed the blood test results from Forensic Science Institute and Rangsit University which showed high level of heavy metals in the blood samples of 400 villagers and 200 others who include adults and children showed abnormal DNA.

After rallying at the DSI office, they went to the Government House to submit the open letter addressed to the prime minister before proceeding to the Industry Ministry to submit their protest letter against the granting of gold mining concession.

The group also went to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to give moral support to the permanent secretary, Mrs Mingkwan Witchayarangsarit, who was speculated to be axed for her refusal to sign a permit for the opening of forest reserves for mining activities.

This mob sure have the buffaloe by the tail , what would DSI have to do with health issues , wouldn't it be better to approach the Mines Department , Environment and Health Departments and sort this out ,I know some of these issues have been going on for sometime so these departments need reaming with a large stick, unless criminal activity has been identified, the DSI should just solve crimes not interfere in an issue that is above the pay grade, well most things for DSI and the RPT are beyond their pay grade, especially the imported luxury car spare parts scam , err what is happening there DSI. coffee1.gif
