Sim card registration - new law.

Featured Replies

The missus has just told me I now have to register my sim card with identification by next month or it will be cancelled.

Are these new laws being introduced due to the current climate? Dtac and AIS will be happy mind you.

I dont worry but its a bit of a pain.

Not a big deal, you just have to go to DTAC office, or whatever your provider is, in any town, bring your passport and phone, 2/3 minutes and you are on your way.

( it may help to learn the Thai word for " registration " )

Due date is 31 July (!).

Tons of threads already and who knows what happens exactly after that.

It was written that it will be blocked for outgoing calls, but people can still call you.

I did not find hints, whether and how long you have time to catch up after that date (quite important for those who come here sporadically and have their SIM with them).

Just looked at the NBTC site (telecom regulator).

The text says, that all shops that can do the registration should show this logo:

Still best to go to a customer service center.

Did mine last week in the DTAC shop in Big C. Just needed my phone and my Thai driving licence, not even my passport.
