Call me Dumbo

Recommended Posts

So I have my new laptop (well 4 month old) never had any problems

It is very fast (AMD quad core) I used it this morning it was ok

then my nephew used it afterwards to download some documents

for his study it was ok I guess (well he never told me it was not)

So this afternoon I used the PC again and the sound does not

work anymore I tried trouble shooting and so on but it only tells

me one part of audio is not working

So I dig deeper and it tells me we fixed one problem but we

can not fix anything else so what is the Problem ?

I am still without sound sad.png

What operating system?

Windows:

A first step is checking the device manager for problems.

With Win7:

Click Start button, right click on "Computer", select "Manage".

In the "Computer Managment" open "Device Manager".

Do you see any yellow warning icons?

(hope I got the English description correct)

Wonder what the brat has done tongue.png

You have virus protection installed?

If you don't have the skill (or patience) to troubleshoot the problem, you may want to just go for a SYSTEM RESTORE (where the OS and APPS get rolled back to a previous date).

If correcting your audio issue turns out not to be a simple fix you may want to give System Restore a try.

Later Windows Operating Systems automatically create a "Restore Point" that will then allow the user to revert their computer's state (including system files, installed applications, Windows Registry, and system settings) to that of a previous point in time, which can be used to recover from system malfunctions or other problems.

You can use the System Restore option to "Roll Back" changes made to that of a previous state.

To access System Restore,

Start Menu

Control Panel -> Recovery ...Open System Restore

(O) Recommended Restore

( ) Choose a different restore point

If the 'Recommended Restore' doesn't correct your current issue, you may wish to go with the 'Choose a different restore point' to select an earlier roll-back point.

Do you know that there's a mute option in the lower right corner of your screen? It's a white speaker icon to the left of the time and date. If it has a red universal "no" icon it's muted. Click on it and then click on it again in the window that pops up to unmute it.

While you're there, click on "mixer" and be sure all of the mixer sliders are are at maximum volume rather that at the off position.

Sorry if you know this but I don't know what your knowledge level is.

Cheers

Hopefully you have learned not to let anyone use your computer

That way you can at least eliminate one possible cause for the failure

I had the same issue when my GF's niece downloaded a bunch of music from a Thai site using my computer. I ended up doing basically what RichCor outlined in his post and was eventually cured.

I guess some Thai sites, especially ones kids use for downloading are really dodgy. I suspect at somepoint you would have gotten an offer to download a program to "fix" your computer for an outrageous price.
