Anyone else required a 'reason for transfer' at bank when sending money abroad?

Recommended Posts

My bf is trying to send me some money from our Thai bank account to my account in Canada. Bank would not allow him to transfer to my account unless he could prove a reason for sending the money. The reason is because I bought a return ticket to Thailand on my Canadian credit card and obviously need to pay for it... But they won't let him send until they can see my itinerary receipt. Seems absurd what kind of policy is this. When I was there we sent money back to Canada all the time to pay for storage and my student loans. Are we now going to be required to prove why I want to send money from my Thai account to my Home country account every time? Anyone else experiencing this?

Typically banks will have a "reason" line for international transfers.

Tell him to chose "family support" or investment.

I just transferred funds and no proof was needed, just a reason.

What Thai bank is he using? Is he able to communicate with the bank staff properly?

I've never had any problems from my Thai bank, is why I ask.
