Govt vows to take stern action against lottery overpricing

BANGKOK, 4 June 2015 (NNT) – Deputy Government Spokesperson Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd has affirmed the government is serious about prosecuting vendors of overpriced lottery while urging consumers to boycott such violators.

Ahead of the next lottery drawing on June 16, Maj Gen Sansern stated that, based on initial surveys, all vendors have so far been found to abide by the new lottery price structure.

He elaborated that after the original price of lottery tickets was reduced, the fixed retail price of 80 baht per ticket has been deemed suitable as vendors can now enjoy a higher profit of 9.60 baht per ticket as opposed to 5.60 baht previously.

Maj Gen Sansern added that teams of officials are being sent out to conduct random inspections. If any retailers set their price above 80 baht, he insisted that they would be considered as taking advantage of consumers and would be subject to legal punishment.

They would also be asked to implicate middlemen who sold them the expensive tickets at the first place.

The Deputy Government Spokesperson suggested consumers to protect their rights by purchasing lottery only from vendors who comply with the price regulation. They are also urged to refrain from supporting those who overprice their tickets and report them to the police.

Is this the Thai government (NCPO) or the National Council for the Price of Lotto.

Why are they fixated on this?

Why are they fixated on this?

They need a "win" and this seems easy.

This is the biggest problem in this country?

I never heard any Thai complain about the price, considering you DONT have to buy a lottery ticket to live if you think it is!

If they need a win and I'm sure they do, they should just rigg it like everything else.

The problem is the distribution (middle men) system, not the end seller. If you want to lower the

ticket prices, change the distribution system and cut out the connected families who get all the

tickets. It is the guys responsible for the distribution system that should be arrested tongue.png
