PHNOM PENH, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and its neighboring Thailand have planned to broaden relations and cooperation in all fields, especially in trade, investment and tourism for mutual benefits, a Cambodian spokesman said Wednesday.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong will pay a visit to Thailand in upcoming months as Prime Minister Hun Sen is also scheduled to visit Thailand later this year or early next year, Koy Kuong, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters after a meeting between Hor Namhong and new Thai ambassador to Cambodia Nuttavudh Photisaro.

He said during the upcoming visit of Hor Namhong to Thailand, the two neighboring countries will talk on the opening of a new border checkpoint and the establishment of three special economic zones along the border in order to further promote cooperation in trade, investment and tourism.

According to the spokesman, the trade volume between the two countries topped 5 billion U.S. dollars last year.

Cambodia and Thailand have been working actively to improve their relations and cooperation after border conflicts near Cambodia's Preah Vihear Temple erupted between 2008 and 2011, which resulted in deadly armed clashes.
