Nine banks join new scheme in a prelude to similar service throughout Asean

Customers of nine Thai banks will be able to use ATMs in Malaysia from next month as part of a cross-border scheme that aims to provide the service across Asean countries.

The operation will be expanded to Singapore and Indonesia in the first quarter of next year.

Both Thai and Malaysian travellers will be able to withdraw money at ATM machines throughout Malaysia and Thailand that bear the ATM Pool logo.

The nine local banks - Krung Thai Bank, Bank of Ayudhya, Kasikornbank, Siam Commercial Bank, TMB Bank, Siam City Bank, BankThai, UOB Bank (Thai) and Bangkok Bank -

have a total of around 10,000 ATMs nationwide, while MEPS will provide around 5,900 ATMs through its MEPS shared ATM network in Malaysia.

Did they say when this will work in Cambodia & Laos? They're AEASN ain't they? Do they have any ATMs yet (that don't require a local bank account)?

yes in PP Cambodia there is at least one ANZ ATM that you can withdraw from using visa eletro cards and more.

I do not understand this, I have been doing this for a long time.

Perhaps they are refering to using Thai Visa and Master cards in the ATMs which we have not been able to do for a long time, due to Credit Card cloning being rife in Malaysia.

On this opportunity I will ask:

what are the charges for using Thai ATM cards in foreign countries?

I recently returned from The Philippines. It was 200 pesos/withdrawal, up from 100 one yr. ago, if memory serves me correctly/

forget it, this thread is 4 years old

So this seems to be the current situation in Malaysia, thai atm cards can be used but there are no facilities available to update the passbooks, the only thai bank is Bangkok Bank but when asked what services they provide to current accounts holder they claim to be a totally indipendent bank from the one in Thailand and so they couldn't provide any services because "this is Malaysia ka"
