Predictions For Visa Overhaul

Featured Replies

First these are pure out of the air speculation so dont immediatly panic.. But I am guessing..

First that touist visa's are going to be much harder to get at all SE Asian embassies.. I am thinking maybe one single entry issued and perhaps no back to back after that.. It would simply make no sense to allow all the visa runners to simply go and get a different easy visa in Penang / KL.

Second, they want to clamp down on people working but not paying tax.. So prediction 2 would be that Non Imm B's will be issued SINGLE ENTRY only and not multiple entry.. Then to extend the non B they need to see your work permit. No more having an easy to get non B and 90 day border running.. Proof of taxes implied via the work permit lock down the WP + visa to give a right to stay.

Third, wonder how friendly consuls will be treated ?? Many are issuing visa's based on loose grounds.. Presume thats not going to be left an avenue.

Unless they change the existing rules to allow retirement at any age (showing money to stay here) I see things as being tough for the under 50's.. I am on a non imm O good for another 14 months if I use it tactically but long term living here looks much shakier.. Hence not a chance of me investing into the country in villas or real estate.

Should have been born earlier. :o:D:D:D

Yeppers ... here we go!

time to head out and get the non-imm-multi NOW .... let it all work out over the next 15 months

A non imm multim for 15 months.... forgive me - may be a silly question but do you need a company/employment for this?

Op - maybe, possibly this is just the begining of a diverse campaign to weed out unofficialy employed ferang in more ways than we can forsee now. What i mean is, what if they keep pushing this new concept in other areas, they may even go way over the top and start implementing stuff such as;

Mobile phone - Why would a ferang tourist need a Thai sim card if they are here on holiday? I smell a rat... Insist on ferang providing visa and work permit to show they are long termers.

Internet - Why would a ferang tourist need to sign up to broadband if they are only here for a couple months on holiday? The interenet shops they can use. I smell a rat... insist on ferang providing work permit etc.

And so on. My point is, they may (possibly) go way over the top in order to prove that you are commited to LOS and work here/run a business.
