FACTOR
How much rice (organic) could I expect to get from two rai of land? How many harvests are there per year?
loong
Probably there are too many variables for you to get a definitive answer. Most areas, only 1 harvest per year unless you have access to water during the dry season.
trawler
As Loong mentioned lots of variables, but up here in the North we get at least 2 harvests(yes have access to water) and from 2 Rai approx 800kgs Jasmine rice.
chiang mai
Three harvests per year in Mae Rim (outside my front door) but there's great access to water/klongs off the MaeTang reservoir.
laubau
In Chonnabot (Khon Kean province), we get 3 harvests per year but we have access to the Chee River during dry season. For us, the Thai Jasmine rice harvest averages about 2,500 to 3,000 kg for 2 rai per harvest.
SOTIRIOS
.........'organic'.......only if the land has not been laden with chemicals for at least 3 years previously....I think....
cardinalblue
1000 kg per rai for sticky and 500 kg for jasmine (then minus 25% for de-husking)... Water determines how many times but never seen 3 rice crops in a year for jasmine since it takes 4-5 months from nursery to harvest. Sticky one less month per cycle.... See a lot of people grow two rice crops a year and then a corn or soy bean or tomato crop in the summer time...most people begin their first rice nursery from June 15-30.... Which soi and fertiliser you use ? which meter you use to measure the rai ? comm-on ! 1.600 kg / Rai- is most what I heared ; Just Thaksins red alliens sold 10 tonnes out of halv a rai !! Dublin
Depends on water, ground conditions, weather etc, if you have plenty full supply of water, good soil, good weather you can get 3 crops a year 2 would be average. insects can destroy a crop so plenty of spraying required a heavy day of rain can also flatten you crop around harvest time and a flood when the rice is young is devastating. The averages quoted above are pretty correct but take into account if the rice is dry or wet some place will only buy if dry.
patongphil
The other end of the scale in Maha Sarakham we only get one crop per year and lucky to get 400kg per rai. Some crops we don't even bother to harvest as only weeds and grass that survive the lack of rain.

cardinalblue
I did go to the organic certification org in mae jo to see if they would help/oversee our switch to organic and said no once we told them we were in mae rim. My guess is the area is where a lot of pesticides are used so even if you don't use them the water and surrounding soil are already so contaminated that it would be impossible to protect your crop.... On hold for now but the idea is still there..... Edited June 10, 2015 by cardinalblue

Could you share with us all the details for growing such a bountiful crop? Leave nothing out. Over here in Neon Mapruang district we are struggling to get 800kg/rai or 1100kg of Jasmine.
