PWA to scrap water minimum usage tariff

BANGKOK, 12 June 2015 (NNT) – The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) has decided to scrap its minimum water tariff, starting next month.

The PWA said the move was meant to relieve the financial burden on households in the face of economic slowdown. The revocation applies to all provinces across the country.

Currently, residents are required to pay a minimum 50 baht per month. Government agencies and small businesses must pay a minimum 150 baht per month, and state enterprises and large businesses 300 baht per month.

Beginning July 1, residents will be charged only for the amount of water they use. Tariff payments will no longer be required.

PWA Governor Ratana Kitchawan said revoking the tariff reflected the agency's determination to fair public service. The PWA Governor also affirmed that all utility revenue was used to expand waterworks to cope surging demand.
