June 11, 201511 yr Probe into lost guns orderedTHE NATIONKORAT: -- Defence Minister General Udomdej Sitabutr said yesterday that the case of some 100 M16 rifles going missing from the Interior Ministry's 1st Nakhon Ratchasima territorial defence volunteer corps' armoury should be investigated in detail.Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Thongchai Leu-adul said on Wednesday that 90 of 170 assault rifles in the armoury had gone missing since 2011 and that his predecessor had ordered a probe and filed police complaints. More than 20 persons of interest have been questioned, but nobody has admitted to stealing the weapons yet, he said.A June 5 count of weapons in 32 districts showed five assault rifles missing, which were later found to have been borrowed by the Theparak district unit, he said, adding that some of the missing rifles may have been "borrowed" in a similar manner. June 12, 201511 yr 'Should be investigated in detail ' ? Is he simply stating the obvious or hinting the investigation has been less than satisfactory so far ? The problem about proper, in depth investigations is that they often reveal things that some would rather not see the light of day.

The initial investigation may have got nowhere because it pointed to someone who was "protected". Now, he/she could well be about to get their just deserts.
