Sorry for the injured and families of all involved. Is this the same site as was frantically building a wall to try to protect houses below the construction site? I'm no fan of the overkill of EU HSE standards, but some basic understanding of civil engineering would go a long way wink.png

Yes its the same Building site. People warned at that time that a landslide would take Down the wall they put up to protect the Buildings "under" the site.

The Building Company didnt have any permit to build but guess thats just a minor incident, like the Bungee Jump killing.

So 1 burmese worker killed and 5 seriously injured - nothing will happen about that for sure and the Patong Mayor is still smiling all the way to the Bank ... sick.gifsick.gifsick.gif

I think the site that user jpinx was referring to is Phanason Park on Nanai Rd. There was a thread here recently about the wall erected to protect the houses below being too flimsy.

I've personally seen the cable and/or straps snap on the big crane they're using at Patong Bay Hill twice now, dropping the load unexpectedly from a height of 10-15 meters. Luckily, both times nobody was standing underneath (like they usually do), as they would have been killed.

As for the comment about the Mayor smiling all the way to the bank, it was the previous (and now deceased) mayor who is (was) the developer of this project, although he always claimed that there was no conflict of interest since his son was running the project - yeah, right.

Worker killed in landslide
The Sunday Nation

PHUKET: -- One Myanmar worker was killed and five others wounded when a landslide hit a hotel construction site in the Patong area of Phuket's Kathu district yesterday.

The morning landslide reportedly occurred after heavy rainfall in the area throughout Friday night. The deceased worker was identified as Sat Lai, 20.

Four out of the five wounded workers were later discharged but one remained at Patong Hospital.

Construction project executive Anupong Muttaraid affirmed that all the workers at the site had obtained proper documents. He said the project would cover medical costs and compensate the workers, while also discussing with the contractor about measures to prevent re-occurrence.

Patong Mayor Chalermlak Kepsap said the project construction was currently suspended pending investigation into this landslide incident.

Another fine Keesin project. Did they ever get their Bay Garden hotel moved back off the beach after their bogus claims of sand eroding after the Tsunami? This family is a piece of work...............

Yes - it looks like they finally backed down and removed all of their equipment that was encroaching on the beach.

Not sure when it was removed, but for a long time, it was a strange sight walking along the beach seeing where all of the other establishments had complied with orders to back off the beach, except for the Patong Bay Garden whose encroachment stuck out like a sore thumb.
