Lottery board agrees to award two prizes for first three numbers as suggested by PM

BANGKOK: -- The Government Lottery Office (GLO) board of directors yesterday approved to award two prizes for the first three numbers of the lottery tickets to solve the problem of unsold lottery tickets with unpopular numbers.

This new prize will be effective as of the upcoming September 2015 lottery draw with the hope to also increase dampening sales when the “jackpot” prize was cancelled.

The idea to award prizes for the first three numbers came from Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha to solve unsold tickets left by vendors, particularly those with same last numbers as 000, or 111 in the tickets.

Normally four prizes are awarded from the drawing for the last three numbers. But Gen Prayut had the idea that instead of giving four prizes to last three numbers, the prizes should be equally shared for the first three numbers of lottery tickets.

At yesterday’s meeting the GLO board also decided to lower the cap for three major distributors from 8,000 packs or books to 5,000 each.

The GLO has earlier capped the selling at a total of 22 million books for the July which will be expiring within the end of the month.

Apart from the three major distributors, 20 other medium sized independent sellers will be limited to 400-600 books per distributor.

Meanwhile the GLO Foundation’s quota will also be lowered to 10,000 books from the previous 20,000.

The new quota allocation is to accommodate the distribution of tickets to two new organizations, namely the Paralympic Committee of Thailand (to be allocated 12,000 books) and Mentally Impaired Association (to be allocated 7,000 books).

This new quota allocation will expire at the end of the year after which the GLO will again re-allocate its quota to include a total of 2,800 registered retailers and 2,800 physically impaired individuals.

Meanwhile lottery sales have dampened significantly this time round with vendors selling lower than the 80-baht control price.

One street vendor who normally sells the lotteries outside the Khon Kaen City Hall has lowered price to 78 baht each for buying five tickets together, and those purchasing 10 tickets will be able to buy them at 75 baht per ticket.

According to this seller, he hopes this will encourage the sale of as many lotteries as possible before the drawing this afternoon.

It is very very important to get this lottery thing right.

Prayut will leave no stone unturned to aggressively push this 80 baht ticket price. The cherry on the cake is this wonderful 3 numbers at the start surprise. I don't think anyone saw that coming.

We are down at Fuji celebrating this turn of events...

Well done Prayut. Another tick in the box of progressive thinking..

Maybe when Prayut have finished his life's mission the 80 baht ticket price, Essendon could offer him a job as a coach? They seem to need all the help, they can get...............coffee1.gif

This lottery is not fair...

If you buy the nrs XXXXX00 unit XXXXX99 then you will be SURE to win the price on the ending 2 digits.

The price which you will only win is 2000 Baht.

However you have to buy 100 lotteries @ 80 Baht = 8000 Baht.

So where is the 6000 Baht???

So much energy taken up on trivial matters when there are more serious areas to tackle...oh that would probably mean investigating higher level people and we would not want that.

It seems that the "Street Vendor" buys the tickets for 73 baht but what about the price paid by those further "Up Line" like the "Major Distributors" and "The medium sized Independent Sellers"

Apart from the three major distributors, 20 other medium sized independent sellers will be limited to 400-600 books per distributor.

What does the GLO initially sell these tickets for ?

The PM suggested it, and the lottery board, as one man, exclaimed "What a splendid idea, how on earth could it be that we never thought of it, we'll get on to it right away!". Thus ensuring that they remain on the lottery board for a further term of office...

Lottery board agrees to award two prizes for first three numbers as suggested by PM

Had to read the headline twice...

Thought it read "Lottery board agrees to award two prizes for first three numbers suggested by PM"

Thought Thailand had ended up with just another corrupt PM again, thought he was going to suggest the winning numbers (after consulting with family members and friends).

You are forgetting that there are many other prizes that your 100 tickets could win.

1 x jackpot

1 x 2-number prize

4 x 3-number prizes

2 x 50,000B for the numbers either side of the jackpot

165 x prizes for other 6-figure numbers.
