Community Loyal Dog Stands Guard Over Owner’s Body in Wooded Area Behind Home
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A scene unfolded in Panomsarakham district on the morning of 1 July, after the body of a 25-year-old man was discovered in a wooded area behind his home, watched over faithfully by his pet dog. At approximately 08:30, officers from Khao Hin Son Police Station were alerted to a suspected death in Moo 1, Khao Hin Son subdistrict,Chachoengsao. Upon arrival, police and rescue workers found villagers gathered near the edge of a forested area. The scene was cordoned off for investigation. The deceased was identified as Mr Wachira believed to have died around 12 hours prior. His body showed multiple injuries, including three stab wounds to the chest and a deep gash across the neck. A blood-stained kitchen knife and the handle of a pair of scissors were found next to the body. Poignantly, the man’s dog remained by his side and refused to leave, even as authorities arrived. According to Mrs Bee, the deceased’s aunt, Wachira had left home the previous night accompanied by the dog. When he had not return in the morning, she asked her daughter-in-law and mother to search near the fields and woods behind the property, where they discovered his body still watched over by the loyal animal. Mrs Bee also revealed that her nephew had been struggling emotionally for several days. “He hadn’t been himself,” she said. “He cried constantly and told me, ‘Mum, my life is nothing now.’ I had planned to take him to a doctor, but I was too late.” Initial statements from both the family and a close friend suggested Wachira had been overwhelmed by family issues. He had recently returned home from work in Pattaya and reportedly found himself alone. “He kept crying and saying he had no one left,” his friend said. “I tried to comfort him, but I didn’t realise he was suffering so much.” While authorities have not ruled out any possibilities, the preliminary assessment indicates a likely case of self-harm rather than foul play. The body has been sent for forensic examination at the Police General Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Politics Paetongtarn Suspended Over Hun Sen Call, Vows to Fight Charges
Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, centre, leaves the Government House in Bangkok, Thailand, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, after Thailand's Constitutional Court suspended the prime minister from office pending an investigation over a leaked phone call with a former Cambodian leader. (AP Photo/Sakchai Lalit) Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is confident she’ll clear her name in court over a controversial call with Cambodia’s Hun Sen. Suspended from her duties today by the Constitutional Court, Paetongtarn stands accused of misconduct and breaching ethical standards. Yet, she remains resolute, asserting that the call was made solely in the nation’s best interest. GGranted 15 days to mount her defence, Paetongtarn faces charges led by a group of senators that paint a picture of alleged misconduct. PPaetongtarn firmly argues that the intent of the call was to protect Thai soldiers and maintain peace. “I had no personal gain,” she stated, reaffirming her dedication to national security. DDespite her suspension, Paetongtarn pledges to continue serving Thailand as a devoted citizen. SShe offered no remarks on her recent self-appointment as Minister of Culture, a role she assumed while her prime ministerial future faced uncertainty. Party insiders reveal this move was to secure her presence in the government amidst looming legal challenges. PPolitical pundits suggest that her new Cabinet position may encounter its own set of legal hurdles. TThe accusations before the Constitutional Court highlight serious ethical breaches that impact both her duties as prime minister and as a minister. As Paetongtarn readies her legal defence, the nation watches closely, eager for the next chapter in this unfolding political saga. Her supporters maintain that the call was a necessary diplomatic move, underscoring her commitment to regional stability. Critics, however, argue that the conversation overstepped legal boundaries, potentially undermining constitutional protocols. AAs tensions simmer, attention is now focused on the forthcoming decisions of the Constitutional Court. Whether Paetongtarn can reclaim her post or face further political obstacles remains to be seen. In the meantime, the political landscape is rife with speculation, as observers await the outcome of this high-stakes courtroom drama. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Thai PBS World 2025-07-02
