Apichart Dangnam, 27, was found to have in his possession a total of 18,000 ya bah pills.

PHUKET: -- A Phang Nga methamphetamine (ya bah) dealer was arrested June 17 in the province̕s Borsaen sub-district in possession of 18,000 ya bah pills and a .38 calibre pistol.

Yesterday morning, Phang Nga Governor, Prayoon Rattanasaenee and Phang Nga police held a press conference to announce the arrest of Phang Nga resident, Apichart Dangnam, 27.

Apichart was arrested when police carried out a search of a rented room in Borsaen. Police also seized six bank account books, various bank cards, B8000 in cash and two car keys). The items amounted to a value of around B1.2m.

Gov Prayoon said at the conference that police had known that Apichart was dealing drugs in the area for quite sometime and tracked him down to the rental room in Borsaen on Monday (June 15).

When police arrived at the room they found Apichart and three other men taking drugs. Then when they searched the room found 2,000 ya bah pills and the .38 calibre pistol.

When questioned by police, Apichart admitted he had another eight bundles of pills hidden in the washing machine. The eight bundles contained a further 16,000 pills.

Gov Prayoon added that Apichart told police that he was working as a boat operator in Phuket but quit and came to work in Phang Nga as a drug dealer with his friends as it paid more.

He got paid B5000 per bundle he delivered and he recently picked up 50 bundles of pills from Surathani. He then divided the pills into smaller packages ready to be delivered to clients in Krabi.

Apichart charged with possession of Category 1 with intent to sell.

Well at least this bit of reporting has a drug bust of a substantial quantity of drugs, rather than the usual news of a drug bust of ten pills and 1.2 gramme of amphetamine and 0.2 gramme of ice....

18,000 ya bah pills off the streets is the way to go, Funny though because it seems to me that the guy was set up,probabaly by a competitor......

"Don't get high on your own supply"

A great excuse at court.

He confessed so at least should avoid the death penalty but hopefully can look forward to spending the rest of his days in jail or at least a major part of his life. He made a conscious decision to deal one of the most insidious drugs ever made.

When was the last time, death penalty has been executed in Thailand for drug offense ?

IMO, by far too long ago

I'm glad this drug dealer who was acting alone has been caught. There should be no future incidents as we know there are no drug mafias on the islands. If there was the people would have told the general.

This guy is close to the manufacturer.

Possibly next step down, more probably second step down.

Shame they couldn't turn him. He's not far away from the lab.

Doubt it, Watson.

18,000 pills is no street dealer that is "at the bottom of the ladder" - and there's no way this guy could finance his own buy of that amount.

18,000 pills on consignment is close to the top.

For 18,000 pills, that's a lot of precursor chemicals.

Of course, they may be from Myanmar, where they have set up commercial sized lab's, specifically for the Thai drug market. :)
