Visa Regulations On Thai Television

Featured Replies

Apparently they'll be announcing regulations in a press conference on thai television shortly in thai and english.

Rumour has it they may announce that they are thinking of introducing a 3 month visa that you can get in country for 2000 baht but not yet

Which channel?

Not sure if live

Press conference at 3pm

source suspects all channels but will know more soon hopefully

FWIW, got an SMS about 10 minutes ago saying that there would be 'public announcement' this afternoon, so this may tie in.

Let's hope that finally we all get clarity.

Regards

PS So far I've had several different 'translations' of the Thai posted on the Immigration site :o

The Channel 3 news around 5.00 - 5.30 each evening has the option of listening in English if you have dual language TV. This may be the way they will "break the news" to the farrangs. Also Channel 11 has 'Newsline' in the evenings around 9.45 - 10.00pm which is totally in English.

ITV is announcing "Breaking News" at 3pm <UBC channel 6> News on Channel 9 at 3pm too <UBC 4>

Nothing much on iTV at the moment bit if you put Channel 11 on there's what appears to be a jitterbug dance competion, some very cute chicks there.

nope saw some discussion on one channel ... but no news conference and nothing helpful

I have posted The Nation article in the relevant threads. Nothing new, really.

Nothing new ?

but their entry stamps will be renewable twice at most for a maximum stay of 90 days.
We clearly now know that its max 3 entry for max 90 days in each 180 days.

before it could be "several"...

They had one stamp already, so 1+2 = 3

If you renew something it means you have at least one already. Renew this one two times gives you three entries. Nothing has changed since the original information release by Sunbelt (re: 3 entries).

Yes, but it's back to square one !

-do we speak about 3 stamps maximum (which is equal to 90 days 3x30)

-or 90 days of presence in thailand (with no limits regarding the number of stamps)

Check out this link but it is in Thai:

Can someone translate the announcements into English? It may give more information regarding changes in other visas.

Yes, the posted new actual regulations say 'several' whereas a newspaper article says 'twice.' Which source would you say is more authoritative?

I did say about a thousasnd posts ago that in all likelihood it would be 3 - not several. Because firstly it's much easier to keep track of (they only have to count to 3 - not keep totting up the numbers of days from multiple entries), and secondly, the wording in the ministerial announcement indicated each stamp gave you a 30 day entitlement, whether you used it all or not.

But I got well and truly shouted down. :D

I still may be wrong. We shall see :o

From the BKK Post - It seems to be the relevant sentence:

"Tourists (from the 41 countries) will not be allowed to stay in Thailand more than 90 days every six months," said a statement issued by the Immigration Department.

Flights are going to be full for New Years.

You and I both :D

Looking at the reports in both The Nation and Bangkok Post, its almost looks like they went to different press conferences. :D

The Nation seems to be saying that the main effect of this is on the Permit to Stay {30 day stamp}, but the Post keeps saying it's all about visas! :D

Confused.... it's to be hoped that someone here is able to get the operational instructions which will then make the matter clear. I did try, but got told 'can not government secret', though that may be more a cover to say 'I've not read it all yet and I'm not sure what it all means :D '

PS Yes I may still be wrong.

This topic was visa regulations on TV which proved to be false and is now off topic and closed.
