Afternoon,

I will return to England soon and wish to apply for a non-im B visa to return with. I teach here and recently started a new job.

After checking the requirements I found out that I will need the following:

2.1.4 Additional requirements for special professions:
2.1.4.1 Teachers
- Curriculum vitae/resume
- Proof of no criminal records in English
- A teaching license
- Applicants for private school’s teacher are also required to submit a letter from the Ministry of Education In Thailand.

I don't have a teacher's license nor the criminal record check. I can get the latter from here as I've worked in Thailand for some years now but how about the teaching license. Does anyone have any experience of abtaining this visa and if so please could you shed some light on the process?

Many thanks in advance.

Easier to get the visa in Thailand by the sounds of it..

You obtain from an embassy or consulate. They are located outside of Thailand.

The letter from the MoE is a letter requested by your employing school. You can't create or request it.

List of documents from the London Thai embassy's website:

  • Visa application form completely filled out
  • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months and its copy
  • Two (2) recent 2 x 2 inches photographs (taken within the past 6 months)
  • A copy of education certificate
  • Criminal record clearance certificate in the United Kingdom or Ireland (issued by the national police department)
  • Official recommendation letter from the education institution in Thailand to the Embassy.
  • Information of the employment term of the applicant in Thailand have to be provided for the Embassy’s consideration.

The letter from the MoE isn't mentioned but it's our experience that it will be requested.

Our experience is that this list is incomplete.

There's a difference between private, government, formal and non-formal school applications. We always add a copy of the school licensee, id of school license, audited accounts, employment contract etc.

Where did you get 'teacher license'? This process happens after you start work. IE after you receive a B and work permit.

I read it on this link.

http://www.thaiembassy.org/phnompenh/th/services/1435/21865-Non-Immigrant-Visa-B.html I've since checked and it's the embassy in Cambodia. My mistake.

If I've lived in Thailand for the past 10 years will I need the criminal record check to be from the UK or here? (Or both?) from what I gather I can get it done here, translated and then sent to London.

In reference to "Information of the employment term of the applicant in Thailand have to be provided for the Embassy’s consideration," would an invitation by my employer plus a contract be sufficient?

Thanks in advance.

If you came back to Thailand on a tourist visa you can change the visa to a Non-B at Chaengwattana Immigration.

To do this you must have 15 days left on your current visa. There is no need to go to Lao.

In Thailand you do not need a teachers license or a CRB check.

If I went to Chaengwattana Immigration is the process to get a non-B the same in regards to paperwork as it would be in Laos or Cambodia?

Im back on a Saturday and start work again on the Monday. Wish I'd known this before.

Yes, the paperwork is the same. The letter from your employer must state that you wish to change from tourist to non-b.

You do not have to wait for the visa, it is issued that day.

Converting a tourist visa into a non-immigrant B has now to be done in the immigration office designated to your place of living and work.

Secondly, the following rules are enforced.

5.5 The Applicant’s educational degree certificate (must be translated into Thai or English and certified by local or overseas Embassy or Consulate of the foreigner and by the Legalization Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand) (For more information, please call 0-2575-1056-9), not less than Bachelor’s degree, academic transcript and evidence of TOEIC scores.
6.6 The Applicant’s educational degree certificate, not less than Bachelor’s degree (must be translated into Thai or English and certified by local or overseas Embassy or Consulate of the foreigner and by the Legalization Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand) (For more information, please call 0-2575-1056-9), academic transcript and evidence of TOEIC scores.

Thirdly, the immigration office might give the applicant a '14 days under consideration' notice prior granting the change of visa.

Conversion can now only be done at Bangkok and you need at least 15 days left. It is not issued the same day, you must return to BKK-immigraiton after 15 days to get the actual conversion.

But for the conversion you must qualify for a 1 year extensionof stay, that means you must have a letter from the labour office that you will get your WP and if the position requires a teaching license you will also need that. (And of course you will not get a teaching license without a work permit and non-immigrant visa).
