webfact
COUNTER COUPWoman held for spreading rumoursTHE NATION Police yesterday escort Chadapa Chokpornbudsri, 48, centre, to a press conference after she was arrested for allegedly spreading rumours of a possible counter coup and statements that violated the lese majeste law.BANGKOK: -- A WOMAN has been arrested on lese majeste charges after she allegedly spread rumours on social media about a possible counter coup, police said yesterday. The woman, identified as Chadapa Chokpornbudsri, was taken into detention after police and military officials traced the rumours backed to her.She was arrested at her home in Samut Prakan, where police also seized evidence such as a computer notebook, tablets, smart phones, video cameras and documents. At a press conference, Chadapa confessed that she had indeed circulated rumours of a counter coup through her personal Facebook account, without realising that this information would cause such panic.Police claim that Chadapa took orders from people with different political opinions who live outside the country. These people were found to regularly violate the lese majeste law and believed to be linked to Anek Sanfran - a top suspect in the bomb attack on the Criminal Court.Chadapa was also charged with violating the Computer Act and will today be escorted to the Bangkok Military Court to begin official detention. However, she was rushed to hospital after the press conference due to blood pressure and heart complaints. z42
Fail to see how opposing a military coup is the same as threatening or defaming the monarchy..... With cases like these cropping up it certainly looks like the law is being used in a very untoward kind of way

Yunla
However, she was rushed to hospital after the press conference due to blood pressure and heart complaints. I hope that she is stable and makes a comfortable recovery. I also hope that her legitimate medical condition is treated with the seriousness it deserves in all future handling of her case. Fat Haggis
And the people in charge now say there's no need to reform the judiciary!! 15-20 years is a joke, as are these military courts, big deal if she posted rumours, Prayuth needs to stop throwing teddies, and getting Butt hurt, he's far from being a people's man, the people are scared of him, that's not a trait of a good leader!! A simple off the cuff remark can land you in jail for 15-20 years if your neighbours or the person you comment to gets offended, article 112 needs to be watered down as its nothing more than a tool to get rid of people who piss you off!! Consider this case with that of those who want to complain of being roughed up by the BIB and are physically prevented from entering a police station to register their complaints which SHOULD BE every citizens' right. EnglishJohn
My goodness : this whole scenario with this stupid woman and this handful of students who are trying their hardest to get arrested is absolutely pathetic. Why kind of dumbasses are directing these idiots ?. Then we have 'Amnesty International' writing to the police chief because these students MIGHT get arrested ?. Jeez - I would have thought they would have been too busy with the dire state of the rest of the world and what ISIS are doing to worry about that. If anti-junta campaigners want to gain support, they should start acting like intelligent people instead of uneducated fools. Mind you, after reading the comments I see on this forum, I now think this is pretty much the rule which divides the two sides.
EnglishJohn
Note how the red-shirts try their hardest to cause problems and undermine the government, whereas the government avoid naming them directly because it will start them shouting and foaming at the mouth again. Reconcilliation - red-shirt style. They have no interest in it and never have. They want whatever they can get and don't care about anything else. End of story. So what would "Acting like intelligent people instead of uneducated fools" entail, John? What would you do in their position? Use my brain and try to think about if the person i'm supposed to be voting for is too spineless to face those accusing him of crimes. Guilty people generally do a runner if they can, he did. The red shirt / UDD movement has some very decent people in its ranks. But because of the top brass being so bent its hard to see them as anything other than crooked. As there are only 2 parties who can realistically win elections here (and will likely be for the next umpteen years) then it seems kind of fruitless voting. The junta isn't doing such a bad job is it? These people should give it a chance, they only get arrested because they willingly break the rules they don't agree with. I would love to know how these protesters' lives would be so much more prosperous under civilian rule like with the last bunch of clowns who were pulling the strings (Yingluck, chalerm etc)

The red-shirts don't form a political party. The red-shirts only protest, have militants and terrorists in their midst and a few grenade lobbers. Our most favourite criminal fugitive being continuously called the de-facto leader of the UDD, Oh, and payday passed already. a few dozen UDD leaders and other important red-shirts party list MPs and 'parliamentary' immune for a while, 700 billion Baht RPPS, a few billion for the right people providing tabletPCs, and a blanket amnesty bill to absolve all. Anyway, here we discuss a 'pending anti-coup coup', or at least gKid told me it was so serious.
tukkytuktuk
Be careful what you post Thailand has ECHELON mass surveillance systems fully operational now. Key words are easy to pick up on. Thankfully they use these systems to also search for terrorists so at the same time as we might get paranoid we can also feel safer.

A group of people who tend to agree on some political topics. That never happens anywhere else in life. In fact, I just stumbled on TVF in a random way. It's not like I'm interested in Thailand.
