Soi Cowboy

Featured Replies

I have heard from a fairly reliable source that the leases are up on most of the bars next May, and therefore there might be alot of redevelopment in the CowBoy area. Resulting in the loss of the bars? Has anyone heard anything concrete?

I'd doubt that this part of town will change(maybe more modern) but bars and shows will be part of its future because of the economics , which include the tourist. But this is IMO.

I have heard this one a few times before! :o !

Would they bulldoze disneyland ??

The bars in cowboy are owned differently than in Nana. Nana is one big lease from the 'head lease guy' nobody owns a bar outright, land, building and business etc.

Cowboy is owned by many individual landowners, all indiviual shops etc. Some same owners, many not. So there is no single lease. Some bar owners own the land, some do not and lease.

So, no your story is just that, an urban myth.

Well I am extremely pleased to hear that that is the case!

This story surfaces about once a year, in fact its a little slow this year, normally its June / July it comes up.

Nawtilis : you are 100% correct :

The Shops that have mostly been converted into bars are owned by different families, similar to other sub-soi's in the area. The situation is the same in the other soi's nearby, particularly Soi 23.

The last time I heard about a buy-out, the families that own the land there started talking and kept jacking up the price as the developers moved up the Soi.

It is a good urban Myth, but thats about all.

from what I am lead to believe a lot of these bars are owned by high ranking Policemen, so I cannot for one minute think that anything would be allowed to change if this is indeed the case.

That is some of the most valuable land in all of Asia, right at the MRT/BTS junction.

Look for changes soon, I'd guess.

There's never been much reason to go to the Asoke area, and without Soi Cowboy they probably would have shut down that Skytrain station long ago. But with the new subway connection at that location it's suddenly got potential.

Pathetic that you guys are all up in arms about the possibility of some trashy whore bars being removed.

Along with Soi 6, Soi 7 and Soi 8

Pathetic that you have to come on here and spout your bible bashing drivel.........

Down Boy! Down! For most of those girls, it is either this or work in the fields and marry some whisky-drinking, gambling local. Now they can hang out with whisky-drinking farangs with wads of disposable income! I only drink sasparilly, though.

soi cowboy is one of the greatest streets on the planet.

whether you are a seasoned pussy hound or just someone who likes to sit out in front of a bar for an hour or so and watch the endless procession of characters amble by , its unique , priceless and should seriously be considered for world heritage site status.

the two long rows of old neon dripping shophouses provide a colourful backdrop to the river of ever changing humanity that flows along that 100 metres of soi.

from toothless old grannies selling fried insects to gaudily attired hookers tottering on improbably heeled boots , to creeping sleazoids doing the walk of shame as they escort their catch for the night to the grimy hot sheet hotel at the end of the soi , to wide eyed young lads whose dreams may or may not be about to come true , to old timers who are well past any action , but like to dream of an active past.

its a little world of its own away from the rest of bangkok.

its friendly , its fun , its unique , its brilliant , its magic , may it last forever
