Bang Sue to be Bangkok's railway hub in 2019

BANGKOK, 26 June 2015 (NNT) - Bangkok's main railway station will be relocated from Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue in the next four years, State Railway of Thailand Governor Wutthichart Kalayanamitr said.

Mr. Wutthichart said the relocation to Bang Sue in Chatuchak's district would take approximately three to for fours to complete.

The station in Hua Lamphong would turn into a historical museum to attract Thai and foreign tourists, the governor added.

Hua Lamphong station was opened in 1916, following six years' construction.

I hope the new fast trains will also stop there.

Based on the skyscrapercity link, looks like construction is already in progress ...

I hope the new fast trains will also stop there.

Sorry, but to which 'new fast trains' are you referring?

In this country, there is more 'talk the talk' than 'walk the walk', so to speak.' Thai reporting on anything to do with transportation is often quite poor with regards to accuracy etc. There is a huge credibility gap here with regards to what they say they will do and what they actually end up doing.

Case in point.

In the time when much attention has been paid to Chinese/ Japanese technology being utilized to provide Thailand with an upgraded modern standard gauge railway system, we still read headlines like this:http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/835792-lower-isaan-provinces-to-be-served-with-double-track-railway-from-2022/

Are they going to revamp the whole system or are they going to contend with a mixed bag of HST on dedicated track, fast trains on standard gauge track and slower trains on metre gauge track?

Since Thai reporters lack knowledge of transportation standards, it would seem that Thais will continue to be fed this pap passing as news.

The main reason Hua Lampong station must be retired from service is quite simple, the railway runs at grade the entire way from the north and all those street crossing cause enormous traffic jams in Bangkok. European cities have utilized tunnels and bridges for over 100 years that is why great cities like London and Paris have magnificent railway stations in the central areas.

Thailand has missed half a century and is now attempting to play catch-up. They have seen what the other countries like France, Germany, Japan, China etc have and they want it and they want it now, regardless of cost or practicality.

I have always loved the name of that area. Bang Sue. I sometimes ask my wife, want to go Bang Sue?

Yeah, sure, of course it will......

It will take them until then to clear the yard of all the broken down locomotives and scrap rolling stock!
