Army Huey helicopter makes second emergency landing in rice field

UBON RATCHATHANI: -- An Army Huey helicopter was forced to make a second emergency landing at a rice field in Sawangwirawong district of Ubon Ratchathani province after five developing an engine trouble.

The incident was reported to the police in UH1H helicopter in Sawangwirawong by villagers this morning.

According to police, the UH 1 H helicopter landed at Ban Donpok village in Tambon Bungmalaeng yesterday evening.

Investigation later revealed that the helicopter left its base at the Second Wing in Lopburi for Ubon Ratchathani since June 26.

On its way back to Lopburi after a normal mission yesterday, the pilot noticed unusual functioning of its lubrication gauge.

He then landed the helicopter at a rice field in Uthumpornpisai district of Si Saket province for maintenance.

After the mechanics fixed the problem, the pilot flew it back ton Ubon for thorough check.

However the helicopter developed overheat problem on the engine, forcing the pilot to make emergency landing for the second time at Ban Donpok village in Tambon Bungmalaeng.

Army mechanics were flown to the area to recheck again.

Pilot to Farmer Somchai in the middle of the paddy:

"Yeah, I think it's a 2-stroke".

And no other helicopters were lost in the search and rescue?

That really is news.

If the military have problems maintaining a simple unsophisticated helicopter, then good luck with the submarines.

That's why they need submarines. With an average depth of the Gulf (75m) on a dive to periscope depth they are already half way to the ground.

probably be better to buy new helicopters iso 1 billion (?) worth of submarines.

Strange coincidence, I have the same lubrication problem, but only after the eighth or ninth landing.

So far no-ones been able to fix it.

Well the kiddie's must have their toys, my son gets by with Leggo.

The last simple unsophisticated helicopter was designed by Da Vinci. Though this one could nearly be as old.

That was the magic of Huey's, unsophisticated, but deadly. You could have hundreds of them for the price of three or four F35's.

There can't be too many of these old relics left flying in Thailand.......in fact...there cant be too many aircraft left in the Thai defence force........they keep pranging them!!

We haven't heard much about the vertical take off aircraft assigned to the aircraft carrier lately. The last time I heard was a few years ago when they had only two left, the remainder had been cannibalized for spares.coffee1.gif

Like taken out of a sketch from Monty Pythons flying Circus ... cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif
