Hello,

I had an O-A visa which was issued in the U.S. in Nov 2013, but expired in Nov 2014. I entered Thailand on Sept 22, 2014 and have lived here since. (My 90 Day Notices are current). My questions are -

1) Can I get a new 1 year extension of stay without leaving Thailand? If so, what is the deadline?

2) Do I need, and can I get, a new retirement Non- Immigration O visa in Thailand? (I'm over 50 and can have the 800K baht by combination of income and a Thai bank account) or do I stll have the O-A Visa?

3) Does Chiang Mai Immigration require seasoning of a Thai bank account used for the 800K baht combination method?

4) What is the deadline for a first time deposit in a Thai account if seasoning is required?

5) Would the above seasoning be 60 or 90 days if required?

6) I have read that there will not be a requirement of a medical certificate or police report. Is that correct?

7) If I get a new retirement visa (this time an O visa), will I have do visa/border runs every 90 days?

Thank you very much in advance, Rick G

1) Yes.

2) No - Non Imm 'O' Visa is NOT issued in country. A conversion from a TR to a Non 'O' can be done in Thailand though.

3) No

4 & 5) 60 days first time for extension of stay, 90 days for subsequent extensions.

6) Correct for a Non Imm 'O'

7) No border runs with the extension of stay, just 90 reports of living.

I am no expert but have gained invaluable knowledge and assistance from Ubonjoe who most certainly is an expert in this area.

1. Yes you can. Any time during the last 30 days of current stay.

2. No. Just apply for a 12 month extension.

3. No.

4. 60 days first extension. 90 days in future.

5. As above.

6. Nope.

7. No. Report to Immigration every 90 days.

You can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement 30 days before your current permit to stay ends. No need for a different visa other than the OA you used for entry.

You will need to prove the income portion of the 800k by getting a income affidavit from the US consulate in Chiang Mai. The money in the bank is proven by getting a letter from the bank confirming the balance and your bank book showing the money.
