Activate 2nd entry tourist visa from CR

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

could you please advise on the best way to activate my second entry?

I will be leaving from Chiang Rai, my thai lady has got a car.

What's the best thing to do? Mae Sai (if I remember correctly) and then Myanmar right?

I've heard it's best to park the car in Thailand and cross the border walking?

Heard of huge harrasment from tourist guides crossing the border?

Is it worth to stop for a night somewhere in Myanmar near the border?

Any tips for me please?

Cheers

From Chiang Rai you have two options

Mae Sai - Myanmar (Tachileik, Myanmar)

Chiang Khong - Laos (Huay Xai, Laos Friendship Bridge)

Mae Sai will most likely be closer, easier, and quickest.

Mae Sai is a special crossing

Normally, tourists will accomplish their boarder run by leaving Thailand on foot, crossing the bridge, immediately get stamped in and out at the small Myanmar Immigration office, crossing back over the bridge, and activating your second entry on your VISA. (Important: Verify the final stamp dates!!!)

Otherwise, you can cross over and choose to visit the shops in Tachileik.

In this instance, Passports are confiscated my Myanmar Immigration and a temporary travel permit is issued; the permit is exchanged for the traveler's passport upon crossing back into Thailand.
