Ubon Ratchathani Governor visits aquacultures plagued by fish disease

UBON RATCHATHANI, 16 July 2015, (NNT) - Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Prateep Keertiraeka and his entourage yesterday visited cage fish farmers in the districts of Tan Sum and Phibun Mangsahan, after receiving several reports of mysterious fish deaths from July 13 - 14.

Three cage fish farmers in Tan Sum District reported a case of unknown deaths of five cages of tilapia and Nile tilapia. The affected farmers estimated the damage at 240,000 baht. Nineteen aquacultures reported the same incident in several areas of Phibun Mangsahan District. They said 87 cages of fish were affected by the disease, or about 4.02 million baht's worth.

Researchers from Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University have taken the fish carcasses and water from the affected farms to the laboratory for examination, in a bid to find the cause and solution to the mysterious disease.
