Popular Post pattayapip
Savannakhet Marriage Non O Visa. Sunday 19th July I flew into Savannakhet Sunday afternoon with Lao Airline from Vientiane ( Had other Business there ) $120 Flight 45 Minutes, simple easy and fast, was met at Airport by Hotel Driver (50,000 Kip $6) Stayed at the Avalon Residence, good choice, nice comfortable rooms, comfy bed good Aircon and decent English speaking TV , sports and Movies ( Got to watch the Open Golf which was a bonus for me ), near Embassy and pretty cheap ($20 night) no complaints at all, staff very friendly very helpful and spoke very good English . Reasonable food in the coffee shop attached to hotel, plus another place to eat directly across the road which was good also, some reviews have complained about the price of the food, but at around $2/3 a dish I really don't understand that !!! Monday morning 10,000 Kip ($1) on TukTuk to Embassy 5 minutes away (Turn left out of hotel, walk to traffic lights, turn right and embassy maybe 1Km up on left if you want to walk) Embassy applications opens at 9, best to be there maybe 8.30, not a long wait and you should be near the front of the line, getting there 30 minutes early will save more than that amount of time waiting in line Application form with 2 Photos ( This can be downloaded beforehand easily ) Copy of passport (signed by you) Copy of Wife House Book (signed by her) Copy of Marriage Cert ( signed by you and her Make sure you have originals to show) Copy of Wife ID card back and front ( signed by her ) 5000 Baht Easy and painless. Tips: take umbrella as waiting area small and if 10 or so ahead of you then you will be standing in rain/sun All photocopies must be on A4 size paper, don't cut them down like I did (small ID Card) or you will be made to go outside and copy them again !! When you enter the Visa area go to the right of the long table, that is the window that will open, if you go to the left they will send you to the back of the line. Application is simple and straightforward , they will check your documents are all correct and check original marriage cert, 30 seconds and done, the guy spoke good English and everything was done with a smile. They will give you a small printed numbered receipt for your collection next day at 2PM. I arrived there 8.30 and was about number 10 in line, but 5 went to the wrong side of the table ( a few made a mistake and had to go to the back of the line, a few had to collect application form the fill in ! ) So ended up number 5 , was back in TukTuk to Hotel at 9.15, wish everything was this easy !!! Tuesday: TukTuk to Embassy 1.30 PM (When i was leaving the line was huge and out of the Embassy Grounds, Got there 30 Minutes early !!! ) 3rd in line at the Gate, Gate opened promptly at 2PM 60 seconds later I had handed my little printed receipt in and was the owner of a brand new 1 year multiple non "o" Visa TukTuk waited for me and took me back hotel, all for 30,000 Kip Flights back to Bangkok from Savannakhet are on alternate days and unfortunately you could not collect Visa and still make the flight, so have to wait until tomorrow, got the flight for $100 so all in all a good productive trip, the Embassy seem very efficient !!! Cannot understand why they do these in Savannakhet and not Vientiane, but hopefully long may they continue !! roykeanz
Nice report. You say ... "They will give you a small printed numbered receipt for your collection next day at 2PM." I did the same trip to Sav last August and was able to collect the visa at 2 PM on the same day as my application - meaning you could wrap the entire process up in a few hours and thus be able to forego the very dubious 'pleasure' of staying/wasting a night in Sav. I was just wondering if - and when - the rules there have changed?

1marco1
Maybe I have to go to Savannaket on next October. If I will go with my 8 and 10 years old sons, the embassy can give the same visa to them? I am married to a thai and she is the mother. I ask that because I have read on the form about the children.

1marco1
Sorry, they needs because they are European without thai passport. But if they will go to school here, they can have the ED visa.
ubonjoe
Sorry, they needs because they are European without thai passport. But if they will go to school here, they can have the ED visa. They can get one year extensions of stay for being Thai nationals at immigration. All that is needed is proof that their mother is Thai or their Thai birth certificates. The extension can be applied for with any type of entry including a visa exempt one.

The Application for Visa (TM 87) form can be downloaded here: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/base.php?page=download what is the duration of the visa, is it 60 days? (please) Depends on which visa you are talking about. A tourist visa will get you 60 days (extendable in Thailand by 30 days). The OP got a NON-O Multiple which is good for multiple 90-day entries during the visa's one year validity (starting from when the visa was issued by the Thai embassy or consulate). In case you missed it, that's not the correct source I gave of the application form. The correct source was given by ubonJoe immediately afterward. thailandforumaddict
10000 kips is actually more than 40 baht and not $1. The easiest way to remember is that 5000 kip = 20 baht. You won't find any food for $1 in Laos and not even for 10000 kips, it is everywhere more expensive than Thailand .
thailandforumaddict
Anybody found a way to cross this #@$#$%%# bridge without waiting for the bus with the lao ? So boring that it's not possible to find a van that waits for you on the lao side and sends you directly to airport as in nongkhai. Anybody knows a Thai taxi that can cross and pick you up at Savanakhet ?

ubonjoe
When do u have to show your proof of income to immigration? In 3 months or your at the end of your 1 year? You don't need to show income unless you are applying for an extension of stay. You can apply for the extension during the last 30 days of any of the 90 entries you get from the visa. pattayapip
It was a quick rough calculation I could have written TukTuk cost me 10,000 Kip ($1.23) I did not make any reference to Baht, But thanks for the conversion 10000 kips is actually more than 40 baht and not $1. The easiest way to remember is that 5000 kip = 20 baht. Ballbearing
Staying at the casino is the only way I have heard of private transport - I will definitely be doing that next time. I flew through passport collection (3rd in line) so raced to the border as I had a 5 hour drive ahead. Waited 15 minutes as there were no Lao immigration officials. Then waited for 45 minutes for bus and by that stage everyone from the consulate (plus an additional 100 or so) had arrived. 2-300 trying to fight onto one bus was a joke. Finally got through Thai immigration only to find my driver was 5 hours away and had got his days mixed up. Not a good day at all !!!! Stayed overnight in the Ploy Palace in Mukdahan and was very happy with everything there. Cheers, Shane
