Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to upgrade baggage bomb detector

BANGKOK, 23 July 2015 (NNT) – Airports of Thailand (AOT) is set to purchase new CTX explosive detection device to modernize the security measures.

AOT President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn has revealed that AOT will be procuring new CTX9000 explosive detection devices to replace the current ones, which have been in use at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport for 10 years.

He has said that the costs for device maintenance and overhaul are very high, placing the option of purchasing new device the economical decision. New devices will also be more up to date system and is more appropriate for the current situation.

AOT will have to propose this matter to its board in order to verify the 100 million baht budget in addition to the main budget of the 2016 fiscal year. Procurement studies indicate a time frame of 1 year and 5 months for the purchase of this equipment, while the actual purchase is expected in 2017.

In addition, the AOT board meeting has also approved to change the company tasked with the maintenance of the CTX machine. The CTX manufacturers have approved and presented the company that will provide maintenance, operating under a 4-year contract starting from 1 July 2015, with a hiring budget of 547 million.

Now let's see what new scandal the new machine will bring about and that whether they will

be good enough to detect a gun smuggled on board by full of themselves generals and alike...

Long termers will remember that the original purchase of the CTX scanners were mired in a bit of controversy. So much controversy in fact, that the boss of the American company GEInvision that sold them to the Thai authorities were jailed for corruption. Needless to say, nothing ever came of it over here - that the machines were purchased for several times their book value.

Ker-ching!

Off-shore bank transfer, new condo in HK, son to study abroad, blah, blah, anybody?

Ah so now we can see why the ex policeman was so forgetful! Super excuse.

One would have expected that the construction of the new terminal-extension at Swampy, and the new much-larger terminal down in Phuket, would also have required the purchase of further new machines ? wink.png

And perhaps there's a need for a new security-channel, for poo-yais & senior-police/military/government-officials/politicians, so that they aren't delayed when getting through to board their flights, whether to Japan or Singapore or Dubai or wherever ! whistling.gif

Entitlement to use the new channel might even become a status-symbol in-itself ! laugh.png

Oh dear they have even screwed up this simple procurement - the order was to upgrade the GUN detector, not bomb detector rolleyes.gif

Dogs are more efficient, more reliable, and millions of baht cheaper. Of course, you can't really bribe a dog.

Obviously no lessons learnt from the previous CTX fiasco.

Kerching

It's not owned by GE anymore. EU bribery rules are much less stringent than the USA

Wonder if Mr James McCormick will be tendering??? gigglem.gif
