BANGKOK, 24 July 2015 (NNT)-The Australian Ambassador has visited the Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office M.L. Panadda Disakul, saying he hopes the political situation in Thailand will return to normal soon.

M.L. Panadda welcomed the Australian Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Paul Robilliard who was assigned to the post in Thailand last year. H.E. Mr. Robilliard expressed his concerns over the political climate, during his visit.

He encouraged the Thai people to stay united until the situation returns to normal. The Australian Ambassador also sought cooperation from the Thai public sector in order to help reduce the number of road fatalities in Thailand.

According to the World Health Organization, Thailand is listed among the top three nations with the world's highest number of road accident deaths each year.

Moreover, H.E. the Australian Ambassador discussed with M.L. Panadda the possibility of establishing a joint education program between the two countries.

I can just imagine tomorrow's news about how the world or Australia doesn't understand thainess or the political situation in Thailand. ..

I bet that meeting was a waste of time.

Joint education program ... huh !!

Thais don't need to learn English Mr Paul ... but thank you for your visit ...... sawasdee khup !!

And the inevitable 'Australia should fix its own problems and quit meddling in Thai politics' posts..

Sir Les Patterson ,we need You.

Aussie Paul could you please encourage a cultural exchange program to show the Aussie way of lighting the BBQ, where you do not use a piece of rubber tyre inner tube to light the wood. The smoke from that rubber is sickening.

I applaud him for this, it is such an important issue and can not be highlighted enough.

Enacting and enforcing strict regulations on vehicles, drivers, and roads, requires a huge opening investment, but it will pay for itself manyfold in the future, with increased tourist and business confidence, and less injuries and deaths in the working population.

sounds like a Thai version of Sir Humphrey Appleby, GCB, KBE, MVO, MA (Oxon)

Stop the cinacism and recognise that this is official recogintion of the stauts quo here. Good on yer Aussie

I agree totally. I am Aussie and we have a low road toll & good police enforcement. Other countries should be putting pressure on the Thai Government regarding road deaths, because we do care about the Thai people.

"saying he hopes the political situation in Thailand will return to normal soon"

err not exactly recognition of status quo.

Recognition does not mean acceptance, and yes we all hope that Thailand can one day return to a truely democratic form of government, but a lot of dirt still needs to be swept out first.

Well actually recognition does mean acceptance (check the dictionary)

So he is neither recognizing nor accepting. he is just reiterating that he hopes for the situation to return to normality. This all looks rather official for a discussion on education and road death tolls , so one wonders exactly what was the agenda. But the ambassador seems to have made his point in the usual diplomatic terms.

That's nice of the Minister to the Prime Minister's Office to explain where the paper clips are stored and how thrice daily they do their copious filing
