Tourism Dept launches 'Little Hosts' programme

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Tourism Department has introduced a project to deploy young guides as "Little Hosts" to promote tourism in Thailand's 12 "not-to-be-missed" provinces.

The little hosts will be given courses that are expected to enhance their love of their home towns, and to achieve sustainable development in the country's tourism in the long term.

Wanasiri Morakul, acting director-general of the Tourism Department, said the project would provide schoolchildren with knowledge about their home towns, local tourist attractions, local traditions and cultures, being a good host and Thai hospitality, and language proficiency. It would give them an opportunity to gain real-life experiences by working as professional local guides.

The "Little Hosts" project will create not only a strong and positive image of the local tourist industry and favourable impression among the visiting tourists, but it will also develop a greater love in their home towns among the local youngsters, the department hopes.

They will appreciate the importance of conservation of the environment, local traditions, and cultures, as a strong foundation leading to a sustainable development of the tourism sector in the future.

Yep, nothing creates a more positive image than child labour.

All pedo's sign on the dotted line.....

It's a small world, after all.

It's a small world, after all.

Job openings for dwarfs and leprechauns. If you find one of the latter he must give you his pot of gold for his freedom.

It's a small world, after all.

No doubt the Chinese front men will be there to wring as many concessions on food and lodgings out of the local hotels as they can or no tour buses.

In Utopia it sounds like a good idea but here in the real World its a terrible idea that only can go so wrong in so many ways ... They really cant come up with something better, e.g. better safety for tourists ... ?

The last time they come up with an idea for that it resulted in identity bracelets, next time it will probably be tags and a curfew blink.png

and do they have to speak any other language than thai ?

It would give them an opportunity to gain real-life experiences by working as professional local guides.

Why stop there?

Why not:

Little customs officials

Little taxi drivers

Little police officers

Sounds like they are targeting pedos to be the new 'quality tourists'.

Wonder if they are going to present photo shots of the ''little hostess'' e mail, phone number to contact and of course be sure to include the agents contact number, fee, etc. Maybe they can through in a rat roast in the drought hit areas and raft racing in areas of excessive rainfall(floods)

I really wonder if instead of wacking the newborn on the butt in thailand, they hit them up side the head with a 2 by 4, either that of they drag the wee ones around by the feet over the rocky gound with their head being the cushion factor

...so the tour group arrives and it's 11am on a school day.......does little Somchai then rush out of school and host the tour....

Is the incredible TAT paying the kids for this...if not why not...(no mention in the article)...?

How old are these "schoolchildren" going to be....again no mention in the article

...and what's the TAT time window to bring these schoolchildren up to speed in multi lingual "tour guide speak"...(they are going to need to be conversant in several languages are they not)...1 day a group of Japanese...next a group of French folk....next a busload of fire breathing Russians........

and on top of that they will have to be prepared to answer a multitude of questions from the tour party based on....

Just another TAT brainstorm (dumb idea) to justify their existence...I mean they haven't issued any press releases for the past 4 days...and somebody in TAT just had to say something because todays Friday......

and do they have to speak any other language than thai ?

Enticement is nonverbal.

Nothing new here. Haven't you seen the TAT TV adverts of a guy hanging out unsupervised in remote locations with a young boy?

Perversion is as perversion does.

Where in the original article does it mention TAT? That is the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

This is about the Department of Tourism. Not related, a different galaxy, another world..

These people come up with weird ideas whereas TAT comes up with fantastic, sensible marketing plans.

Now if you really want earth shattering ideas go here: The Ministry Of Sports And Tourism MOSAT.

Here you will meet the forward thinking Kobkarn Wattanavrankul.

Clearer now?thumbsup.gif

Leave it to Thailand to exploit their own kids. The unofficial little hosts in the red light districts have been getting abused and exploited for years with the full knowledge and participation of the Thai government.

Small things amuses Small Minds....

Teaching them from a young age how to BS, show that fake smile and how to perfect double charging the Farang.

Not really necessary as TAT is on a road of self destruction.

Another brainchild from TAT.

Another brainchild from TAT.

Nothing to do with TAT. Read it again.

Another crackpot Thai tourist scheme.

This idea proves once again: the mother of the stupid is always pregnant.
