WinnieTheKhwai
It seems that fewer and fewer hotels allow outside guests to use their pool, for any fee. One that does is the Centara Duangtawan, but they charge 300 Baht/Person which is a little spendy. (Monthly rates are better, but that doesn't work for short CM visits) What would be the closest location to downtown (Roughly: Old City - Thapae/Loi Kroh Rd - Riverside area) for either a public swimming pool, or something located at a hotel or gated development? It doesn't need to be particularly large or modern, just wet.

chingmai331
I often swim at the public pool in Chang Puek, cost 50 baht for adults. It's big, 30 m long, usually without other swimmers and very quiet. Near Siam Grand Hotel, unable to say more. I go in evening, when getting dark as cannot abide the bright sunshine. The pool water is OK but not perfect. Closes about 7 pm. I swim like a fiend for 15 laps and head to dinner.
mamborobert
There is large (but not modern )public swimming pool on Tung Hotel Road (end nearest the Railway station), easy enough to get to, food, drink, parking no problem.
WinnieTheKhwai
^ That one didn't seem to be functioning last time I walked through that Railway park across from the station.. Looked a bit like something from "Life after people." Or is that not the one you mean?
mamborobert
Not the one that was never finished in the park/garden opposite...what a shocking waste that place is...so much potential. Further along past the Indian consulate.....I am not to flash with google maps but I think this is the coordinates. 18.794863, 99.016695 There is also the Immi Eco hotel nearby a lot nicer and that used to be open to the public Ps the kids seemed to really like the Tung Hotel...so much so that I took up a Thai tradition and left them there a few times to swim, eat and find there own way back The Unis have used it some times as well. Why they built (but have never completed) the one (you mentioned) so close is beyond me.

That place used to be a great little kindergarten. Beautiful colonial style house in the middle.
Saan
I like the pool off Chiang Mai Land. Not crowded on week days but a hot weekend could be another matter. About 50 baht entry. It is at the far end from Chang Klang Rd.
elektrified
The one that mamborobert mentioned is not bad for the kids but for adults there are better options as have been mentioned. There is nothing wrong with the pool itself but there are a lot of parents sitting around pampering and feeding their kids - in the pool! Also during hot season it's so packed that you can't even swim any laps. No changing rooms; only dirty bathrooms. At night the place transforms into some weird VIP karaoke club upstairs with some shady looking characters. The wife said that when she was younger they used to have a casino in there? or it was a known place to go to gamble, meet ladies, etc. Kind of a weird place in a time warp or something. But my kid likes it there.
