Dear oh dear,,209 posts and counting ...all over a school poster!!

Guys...wake up. They called the dark guy ugly....nobody said they hated him.

All the claims of racism etc is a product of your own particular brainwashing.

It has now become the worst thing imaginable to be called a racist.

Why? Does everyone have to be a state sponsored , vanilla, flavoured person these days?

You aren't in the good old West anymore.

The people in Asia don't HAVE to conform to your way of thinking.

Most Thais I know don't like dark skin as it is usually a sign of an outside working person...suntan etc.

They see this as a lower class of person.

I'm sue all the British posters would understand this. Can't be called a racist...but can still look down on someone perceived to be a lower class.

Get over it.

The economically and politically dominant Sino-Thais merely reinforcing their stereotypes of how "good" and "bad" people look. Hey, whatever sells more "whitening" products, eh?

I was thinking the same time as I read the earlier posts. So often there is a hidden agendafacepalm.gif

I have been looking to buy a moisturizer to apply to my face after I have a shave. Sounds a simple enough task right?

Well I cannot find in any of the supermarkets etc. They offer perhaps 50 different products all pushing the same thing WHITENING for the skin.

So I eventually bought Nivea cream and to my surprise when I opened it at home it was whitening as wellblink.png

Careful Pugga...all the Dudley Dorights will be accusing you of exploiting their female, party endorsed, card carrying, fully paid up, female "brothers".

The possibly call you a reverse sexist.

Lets face it, the dude with the earrings and tats and scar on his face is ugly. Having very dark skin is not generally a trait of beauty and neither is being fat or having scars. Not healthy to point this out to a child with these traits but it is reality. While we in the west have problems with recognizing what is obvious, other countries such as Thailand accept these things.

Having dark skin is generally not a trait of beauty.

That's why white skinned people flock to beaches to get darker skin?

I'd rather bonk Gabrielle Union to death than Kirsten Dunst!!

My Thai wife is very dark skinned, but to me she's far more beautiful than any of my previous Caucasian partners, and I've had a few in my lifetime.

Beauty really is on the eye of the beer holder at times!!

Oh and by the way this whitening industry is absolutely huge worth billions world wide so open your eyes to the big picture

Not according to JTJ. But then again he actually thinks that those Burmese lads are guilty of the murders in Koh Tao. So there you go!

Just another example of how nepotism. corruption and graft gets people jobs they simply cannot do........... what educationalist in his/her right mind would compile this crap and then even consider publishing.....(even if they were racists??)

True. Western racism has has to get a whole lot subtler to survive. Im sure the KKK yearn for the good ol'days when you could call a spade a spade...

Those days are still with us. Drives me mad when I ask someone to bring me a spade and they hand me a shovel.

You owe me a new keyboard!!!!! So wrong, but so funny, coffee flew out my nose faster than immigrants out the channel tunnel you very bad man!!

This chart came from the same educators who authorized a display that included Hitler among superheroes. Thai educators are hopeless.

I had to stop a teacher mid flow last week. I don't speak Thai but she was saying Christopher Columbus and American superstar in the same sentence so I knew something was up. Turned out she thought he was a movie star!

Chris Columbus IS a filmmaker.

Miss Uganda?, Miss America? Nope Miss Japan 2015. Nivea et al should be pooping their pants right now!

She's very light skinned for being half African-American, probably uses them lightening creams.

Today's world is so PC that we all walk on eggshells for fear of upsetting some some sensitive soul, and not a thought goes in to these birds whose eggshells we trample on!!

In all seriousness anyone in the UK remember the old rhyme eeeny meeny miney mo ? And the word used to to describe the person whose toe was to be caught?

Well on my first Stateside trip with my kids, my 3 year of daughter at the time started recanting this rhyme out of nowhere, neither my wife or I had ever taught her it, not too bad yoU might think, err not in a lift with 2 Giant coloured American coppers it's not !!

My daughter was as pale as milk and as blonde as they come, I cringed waiting for the N word, thank God it didn't come, as she said TIGER, I could see these coppers waiting for this word too, at then end of the lift ride, all they said was " cute kid, you all have a nice day, and enjoy your vacation " !!!

Don't get too carried away on racism, as I've travelled pretty much all over the world, and each country has similar issues.

Clearly you have a lot of work ahead of you.

So, you really think you're a better, more enlightened person than I am?

Even though I've enough humility to respect the diversity of cultural values in countries not my own?

Quite the cultural imperialist, aren't you? Bringing your white man's enlightenment to the benighted natives, and all.

True, but he ISN'T a movie star, which is what she thought he was. You may well have cracked it though, a genuine confusing of the filmmaker with the explorers name. Shame the question I had asked was who discovered America, or she would have been correct. You see, I had asked the question, given the answer and she was translating what I had said into Thai, not sure why she does that but that is what she does and unfortunately she does it rather poorly at times.

The fact they choose skin colour to define ugly is a racist action. What worries me is they themselves may not see this. It shows a form of institutionalised racist thinking exists in society as a whole.

So? It's their society, who're you to lecture them about it?

I'm someone who knows racism is a foul disgusting filthy mind set. I'm someone who knows it should always be challenged.

Racism, or better latent racism, because that would include the PC crowd as well, is present in nigh on the whole world population, black and white, bad or good ? illogical ? it's like a drought or poverty, it just is. One could do a survey, ask a white father and a black father if the are comfortable with their daughters marrying a man of a different ethnicity to themselves, suddenly all the card waving would stop. Using ones intellect and seeing something as being illogical or unfair doesn't cause it to stop. Drought and poverty aren't even unfair,it just is.

I get what you are saying but just remember that kids seeing this picture are not going to think to deeply about it.

They will see it simply as black man vs white man....in the beauty stakes

Ah, so you're a better, more enlightened person than the natives, are you?

There's a word for that attitude - it begins with an 'r', and ends with an 'm'. Can you guess what it might be?

There're a lot worse things in this world than being a 'racist'. Just on the attitudinal side, being a hypocrite is one of those things, IMHO.

Myself, I figure that I ought to work to improve my own character flaws before I go lecturing others on theirs.

You say lecturing on hypocrisy like a proper hypocrite. The mind boggles.

Why, pray tell?

You'd make a good Puritan.

Why is the mindset of other people your concern? You honestly think you've some sort of divine mission to right the 'wrongs' of societies other than your own?

Where's the respect for cultural diversity? Why are you so eager to shove Western values down the throat of Asians?

Why do you think you're better than they are? Did God tell you that you are?

Of course, you probably proclaim yourself an atheist, so it would be your secular leftist 'god', in your case.

The benighted people of Thailand are so lucky to have a Western white man like you to teach them what's what in their own country! To tell them how they should think, and act!

I'm a Black American and want to thank all of you here who agree this is unacceptable.

Fair play to you, but why do you feel you had to bring your colour into this?

The Thais slag everyone off, regardless of their race, creed or colour, have you never seen their educational book that portrays all farangs as Fat white slobbering drunkards praying on girls?

What's unacceptable to many of us, sadly is the norm for many Thais. However we chose to live here, and don't really have much say in how wrong some of their beliefs are.

There's some very "unattractive" people of all races mate, I wouldn't get too hung up on this particular chart.

as the thai apologists keep reminding me..........their country their rules

HJ, you don't have to be an apologist to know that is the rule for any country. When you go to the USA, Europe, the UK or the Middle East, you operate under their rules. Should be no different for Thailand. thumbsup.gif

Why do you find 'racists' to be so despicable? You don't even have any compassion and understanding for them? No concept of pity for those not blessed enough to have attained the peak of enlightenment, like yourself?

Why is it somehow better to be judgmental than to be a 'racist'?

What is doubly sad is that you can well guess that words describing superficial appearances handsome, pretty, beautiful, ugly etc.have such a high priority.

They will likely never be taught the words integrity, considerate, trustworthy, thoughtful, witty, altruistic, and articulate. And words like kind, intelligent, honest will be on the back burner a few more years.

Adult Thai family members to whom I showed the picture and asked what they thought all commented that it was made by someone who was likely pretty stupid and they felt insulted by the picture as well, that the dark skinned guy could just as well be someone from Isaan, or any other darker skinned Thai.

The picture also patronizes Koreans with a typically K-Pop style cartoon and boy band hairstyle. It patronizes farang women as well using a clearly caucasian looking character as an example of beauty. So it teaches the kids that too.

The racist illustration is just more of the same cretinous garbagio from the Bangkok Sino-Thai establishment. They have little to no intention of educating anyone only to get in their way and take their money. It hardly surprises anyone who knows how things are here and you won't be holding your breath waiting for people to wise up.

If there is no God, then what makes 'racism' wrong?

What makes anything wrong, for that matter? Why isn't everything permissible, if there's no overall authority, as it were?

You do understand that in Western culture, the original 'anti-racists' were Christians, and they cited divine authority as their inspiration for their 'anti-racist' views, right?

Cultural diversity is fine, it is a beautiful thing that shows the ignorance and hatred that lies in racism.

Judgemental? You are the one hurling the insults at present. Are you not judging me?
