BANGKOK: -- Two consortiums have submitted their sealed bids for the construction of a coal-fired power plant in Krabi province on the first day of the bids submission held at the head office of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand in Nonthaburi Wednesday morning.

The two bidders are Italian-Thai and Power Construction Corporation of China and another consortium, Astrom (Thailand) and Marubeni.

The event was witnessed by about 100 people, including reporters and without any presence of protesters who earlier said they would submit a protest letter to Egat.

Mr Rattanachai Namwong, Egat deputy governor, said, according to the selection procedure, Egat would fist look into the technical aspect of the bidders followed by the bidding prices to compared with Egat’s median price at 49 billion baht.

The entire selection process which includes the selection of the winner will take about four months, said Mr Rattanachai, adding that when construction will start will depend on the outcome of the HEIA reports and approval from the government.

Mr Akkarapong Suwanthok, vice president of the industrial unit of Italian-Thai Development Corp said he was confident that his corsortium would win the contract.
