Two Pattalung natives arrested in Phuket with ya ice

PHUKET: -- Police arrested two men from Pattalung on Sunday (August 9) and Monday (August 10) after they were found to be in possession of a total of 157.12 grams of crystal meth (ya ice) and 200 methamphetamine pills (ya bah).

The drugs came from a dealer in Nakhorn Sri Thammarat.

On Sunday, a crime suppression unit from Phuket Provincial Police arrested 39-year-old Somchit Nooparat at a rented room in the Baan Naka apartments on Wirat Hongyok Rd in Wichit when he was found to be in possession of 56.83g of ya ice.

During the arrest, police also seized digital scales and drug taking paraphernalia.

Then on Monday, Somchit's delivery man, Duong Janchoo, 41, was arrested near the Tha Chatchai temple on Thepkassattri Rd in Mai Khao when he attempted to deliver drugs to Somchit.

Duong was found in possession of 100.12g of ya ice which was taped to his leg, and 200 ya bah pills which were tucked in the waist of his trousers.

Police also seized from him a mobile phone.

Pol Maj Rithichai Chumchuoy revealed that the arrest of Somchit and Duong came after police received a tip-off from undercover officer that Somchit had been selling drugs from his rented room at Baan Naka.

At noon on Sunday, undercover officers reported that Somchit was leaving his apartment to deliver drugs.

Police approached him in the car park of his apartment block and questioned him. He told police that he had some ya ice in his possession but that it was for personal use.

Police searched Somchit and found two small bags containing a total of 1.65g of ya ice in his pocket. They then searched his room and discovered 14 bags containing a total of 55.45g of ya ice.

When questioned, Somchit told police that he bought the ya ice from a dealer named Krajang Noodam who live near the Nonghong junction in Nakorn Sri Thammarat.

“I paid B180,000 for 100grams and Krajang delivered the drugs to my room on August 2. I have already sold some of it,” Somchit said.

Police told Somchit to contact Krajang to order more drugs, and on Monday Krajang called Somchit to let him know that a delivery man was heading to Phuket to delivery the drugs.

At 2pm, Duong contacted Somchit and told him to pick up the delivery near Sarasin Bridge before the Tha Chatchai check point.

Police went with Somchit to the meeting point and arrested Duong.

Duong told police that he picked up the drugs from Krajang at a cafe at the Nongyok junction in Chauat, Nakorn Srithamarat.

“I would have been paid B20,000 from Krajang once the drugs had been delivered to Somchit,” Duong told police.

Somchit was taken to Wichit Police Station and Duong to the Phuket Provincial Police Station and were both charged with possession of a Category 1 drug with intent to sell.
