You really do not understand America. /sarc See, we need our guns just in case the government becomes repressive. Madison and Jefferson knew a government with an army armed with muskets could take away our freedom. So they wrote the 2nd Amendment so that we can have muskets, too. Okay, they didn't know one day the world would have semi-autos like the AR-15, usually fitted with a 30 rd mag shooting 5.57 NATO or .223 with a muzzle velocity of 3200 fps. Nor did they know one day citizens could legally purchase, albeit with a 20 second online check with the FBI, a Barrett M107A1 .50 caliber BMG round (pic attached), with greater energy at 2000 yards than a Dirty Harry .44 Magnum point black. Plop down about $12,000 on the counter and that M107Ai is yours. But "home defense", you know? In terms of standing up to a repressive government, neither Madison nor Jefferson could have imagined things like an A-10 Warthog with a GAU8 cannon that fires depleted uranium rounds, which kind of obviates any citizen-held weapon from a musket to an AR-15. Advantage: repressive government. Now I'm a hypocrite, because when I saw how crazy the US was becoming---crazy enough to elect Trump---I went out and got myself an AR-15, a SigP229 9mm, a SigP227 .45ACP, a couple of Walther PPKs in .380, and a few other pieces, along with thousands of rounds of ammo. Of course they are all safely stored in my US home, and I was trained by mil types in their use, plus had some issued to me while working abroad in the Middle East, but I do feel slightly more comfortable when I visit the US knowing I have these things and have carried and used them in my work. I wish nobody had an AR-15, because any loon can shoot up a school or church or synagogue or Las Vegas concert or Walmart and take out a few dozen fellow humans in under a minute. Sadly, there are upwards of 25 million AR-15s in public hands in the US. It's kind of late to stop the slaughter. The handguns are more the weapon of choice for road rage. We Americans are flexible and arm ourselves appropriately for the task at hand. Shoot up a school? AR-15. Road rage? Semi-auto handgun.
