BANGKOK: -- National police chief General Somyot Poompanmuang has said he is worried about the safety of Kanthana Siwathanapol, who received Bt228 million in shares days before the death of construction tycoon Chuwong Saetang in June, as police were not able to contact her for more than a week.

Somyot yesterday said that a test of an audio clip in which Chuwong talks about the share transfer was a delicate matter and required high-tech tools, hinting the process would take time to complete.

He said it was up to the Crime Suppression Division to issue arrest warrants based on evidence.

An informed source at the division said it was likely arrest warrants would be issued for two or three suspects next week.

Following a previous police warning urging those involved in the transfer of the shares to contact police for their own safety, police spokesman Lt-General Prawut Thavornsiri said no one had sought police protection yet.

During the investigation, he said police were willing to provide security to Pol Lt-Colonel Banyin Tangpakorn, Kanthana and another share recipient upon request.

Disgusting. How about speed up the enquiries in a professional manner and stop trying to delay the testing of evidence of something of critical importance that is likely to conform what everyone else (deaf and blind included) know, which is that Bunyin has been VERY economical with the truth up to now & that more focus should be put on the cause of death as it is almost certain that nobody could have died in that car crash.

The caddies should be made to surrender passports while the investigation is ongoing as they are surely flight risks

Don't upset him he is very sensitive and feeling sad, some are being overly critical and he is threatening to sue and the press are just so mean to him.

Very re-assuring to hear that the National Police Chief keeps his finger on the pulse on all these cases. The concern he shows for potential harm befalling a witness, person of interest, and potential person to be questioned again and maybe charged with an offence is a lesson to police around the world.

He isn't afraid to get into the detail and get involved in the operations to clear up misunderstanding, as he demonstrated with the very public media friendly DNA testing of an innocent young man accused of a wicked crime by a confused underling. Nor is he afraid to push back from taking snap decisions to satisfy those trying to get the obvious done quickly when he knows every "i" must be dotted and "t" must be crossed. Loyalty to former colleagues is unquestionable, for example highly likely nothing will happen to Banyin in this case or the clown who tried to board the gun in Japan airport.

Perhaps, in retirement, he could become a consultant to police forces around the world and help them improve their quality of service? Assuming he's not to busy with investment management of course.
