travelling around bkk but staying in bkk

Featured Replies

This time around i think i will be travelling to the water market you know the place where they have those boats on the river and you need to ride a boat to buy their stuff and also the train station with the market that closes up when the train passes by. I will be staying in sathorn in bkk and these places are a little far out of bkk but in the surrounding region. Could someone perhaps tell me if i should take a train to get to those places or hire a taxi?

1. Damnoen Floating Market

- take a bus from Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai). It is approximately 1 hr.30 min. from Sai Tai Mai. The only practical way to do this is to go to Damnoen Saduak the evening before, as the market starts early (maybe 6:00 a.m.), and is all finished by about 8:00 a.m. There is a hotel in Damnoen Saduak.

- alternatively, there are commercial tour companies which will pick you up at your hotel in Bangkok, I would presume at about 3;30 or 4:00 a.m.

2. The railway which requires vendors to remove themselves every time a train passes originates at Wong Wien Yai (the traffic circle, not the BTS Station), which is located on the west (Thonburi) side of the Chao Phrya River. While I have never actually ridden it, I know there are frequent departures, as it is a short-line, commuter railroad which terminates in Samut Songkram (Mae Klong).

I think best way to get to them is by van from Victory Monument.
