PHUKET: -- A woman was unable to control her car Toyota Vios while driving home from work hit to the traffic pole at Darasamuth Intersection about 1:30am yesterday morning.

Lt Ekarach Chatphai of the Vichit police, who responded to the call, told The Phuket News that the woman, in her mid-40s, was asleep at the wheel when she ploughed into the traffic lights pole.

“She was not drunk. We breath tested her and found no traces of alcohol. She was working from 7am to midnight and was very tired,” Lt Ekarach said, but declined to name the woman.

Regardless, police charged the woman with reckless driving causing public property damage and fined her the maximum B1,000.

“She will also have to pay for the repairs to the traffic lights, which will cost her about B100,000 because it was brand-new,” Lt Ekarach said.

Samak Lueduanghad, Director of the Highways Department Phuket office, confirmed that the traffic lights have now been replaced and are fully functional.

Man, have some compassion. This lady had just worked something like a 12 hour day and was probably trying to get home so that she could get her kid(s) set for the next day.
