NCPO affirms overall situation now orderly

BANGKOK, 20 August 2015 (NNT) – The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) affirms that the overall situation in Bangkok after the bombing incident is in order, and asks the public to help report on any suspicious persons or clues.

The NCPO Spokesman Col Winthai Suwaree has said that the overall orderliness at Ratchaprasong Intersection in Bangkok after bombing incident has been maintained, while officials and the general public are now working to boost security measures at important locations.

Regarding the discovery of a suspicious item at Nana BTS station on Wednesday afternoon, the NCPO spokesman stated the act was merely an agitation with an intention to cause panic and confusion among the general public.

On the assistance to the injured and the casualties, relatives of the 20 casualties have been contacted, while 16 had already submitted documents that would determine the identity of the victims. The subsidy payments transactions were completed with the relatives of 9 victims. 70 injured persons have already submitted their documents, while several subsidy payments have also been completed for some of the injured victims.

On the medical care of the affected people, data from the Ministry of Public Health’s EMC Center has shown that 56 patients have been released from hospitals, while 67 patients are still being recovering or undergoing treatment in hospitals.

Although some of the bomb's casualties were experiencing difficulty during the identification process, most of the deceased have been verified. Only 2 causalities are pending the verification process.

Authorities are advising the public to contact the Royal Thai Police Hospital, if they are uncertain whether their relatives are part of the causalities from the bombing incident or not.

On the investigation of the incident, the NCPO Spokesman has said that the police have investigated witnesses and evidence, and has issued an arrest warrant for the suspect who has appeared in various news footages.

He has said that the case is initially concluded to have been carried out under the movement of a network, while the intelligence work, including international cooperation, comments that the motive remains unlikely to be carried out by international terrorist groups, as the targets for this act are not exclusively Chinese tourists.

The NCPO Spokesman added that the NCPO would like to thank the Thai public who have expressed the generosity and acted as good hosts, such as providing help to the victims at the site of the incident, assistance from motorcycle and taxi drivers, the donation of blood at hospitals, mental support given to the affected persons, and the mourning for the victims and their relatives.

He has said that in the aftermath of the bomb, Thai people have demonstrated that Thailand never neglects the victims, regardless of their nationality or religious beliefs.

The NCPO Spokesman has added that the public are encouraged to provide any clues to the suspect in this case to the police, and warned that the officials will increase law enforcement intensity to those who continue to disperse non-factual rumours through social media, and those who are involved in agitating acts that causes confusion and panic in the society.
