No Carlsberg Beer? Boycott Chang!

Oh what a surprise, another thai company seems to have misunderstood the contract with its foreign partner, and now Carlsburg Beer is rapidly disappearing from the shelves. What is it about Thai companies and the slimey little tricks they play?

Now one might think that Carlsburg could simply take Thai-Chinese Brewing company or whatever it's called to the high court in Bangkok right? Especially since Carlsburg helped the Thai company develop Chang the best selling Thai beer. Yes, I'm laughing too. I hear an American company tried that once with a certain telecoms tycoon and ended up getting kicked out of the country for his trouble.

Nope this is still the wild west when it comes to doing business, and with no rule of law, the foreign company doesn't stand a chance. I'm amazed any foreign companies even take the risk any more.

It's another assault on the farangs. Can't buy a house, can;t get a loan for a condo - even though I'm married to a Thai, our kids were born here, and I probably earn more than the bank manager. :o

I say BOYCOTT CHANG and refuse to pay for rounds where friends want to drink Chang. It's a small protest. But it's the best I can come up with.

A very sad beer story. Too bad about carlsberg. Distribution of kloster seems very sparse. I have yet to see it anywhere in Patong. Singha and chang both pretty much undrinkable, too much formaldehyde. So that leaves the barely drinkable dutch piss, at least its slightly better than american buttwiper beer. If it was'nt so hot here I'd think about brewing my own.

you can buy a house in your wifes name and get a contract drawn up that gives you rights should anything happen to your wife.

falangs can get loans to purchase property.

and if you are earning so bloody much why dont you just pay cash.

and my understanding of the story is that it was carlsbergs choice to pull out.

Amazing how you can conclude so fast that Chang owners are to blame and that Carlsberg deserves support. The last time a big multinaitonal company go the boot it was Pizza Hut. (Shops rebadged as Pizza Company). And guess what: it was Pizza Huts fault (I thought anyway) for trying some monopoly spiel on to the Thai partner! Pizza Hut had to spend big to get established again in the Thai market.. serves them right.

So now with Chang and Carlsberg.. who knows who is at fault? You have all the details?

Cheers,

Chanchao

I dont beleive that about Pizza Hut and Pizza Company !! It seems all too obvious to me that the Thai partner used Pizza Company for all the training of staff and management knowhow before allowing the whole thing to erupt. Seems very suspicious to me that Pizza Company looks so much like Pizza Hut and operates the same way. Too close for comfort in my mind.

Boycott Chang! That's cutting your nose off to spite your face in my opinion. Not only would my internal system suffer but so would my wallet!

I really can't see where it makes a lot of difference,be it chang or carlsberg,,if it was brewed by chang in Thailand , it will still be chang no matter what bottle it's in.

Gotta remember,it is brewed in thailand by chang, with Thai ingredients and with Thai expertiese.

I used to love TUBORG copenhagen beer, Then while living in a small Oregon town ,they said that NOW TUBORG WOULD BE HERE, and it was,It was brewed by Blitz-Winehard co. of Portland Oregon and tasted exactly like Blitz in a Tuborg bottle, and not even a drunk logger could drink it.

Here's what happened with Pizza Hut/Pizza Company.

The Thai company that leased/licensed the PH franchise for Thailand wanted to sell fried chicken to try to attract more customers. PH HQ wouldn't let the Thai owners add fried chicken to the menu, so when the lease/licensing came up for renewal, they decided not to extend it but got it on their own under the name Pizza Company.

I've stuck with Pizza Company as they have better delivery service (at least where I live) plus you can order online. And my wife likes having fried chicken as an option ...

kev...you right on, Blitz is pretty bad. Someone said that they marketed a 'premium' lager under the label of 'Greasy-dick'...never went nowhere either.

I'll have either Ranier or Olympia when in the NW. But these days give me vodka anyday...

How about Ranier Ale?...the favorite of beat negro bottle gangs from LA to Seattle...

Sabaijai...Excellent icon...the accompanying dialog would be 'And what does all this have to do with Mr Natural who is minding his own business???'

I had to dispose of all my R Crumb comics before I went to the Middle East as I presumed that the pornographic content would have me either beheaded or in jail for 50 years. There is one strip called 'Mr Natural does the dishes' that I want to mount above the kitchen sink here in rural Thailand. Do you got a line on that one?

Tutsi's humor is heavily derivative of R Crumb and the associated LSD sensibility...
