Godot
Ok. I know this is a topic that has been covered again and again. And again. But I thought the 1 A.M closing hours had been suspended. For now. So, to my surprise, when I ventured out on some rare outings to the Reggae Pub on Samui the other day, I found that it actually closed at 1! And, when asking around, everybody said that in fact all the bars on Samui will close at this untimely hour from now on. Is this happening only on Samui? Can I still get a beer in, say, Pattaya after one o'clock?

Manuel
Last night was the first night that many bars, clubs etc. closed at 01.00. They were advised 24 hours in advance of this change in policy. IE Q bar, Bed Supperclub, Nana plaza were closed at 1 AM. Other places remained open until the, up to now, normal 2 AM closing time. I can only confirm that Soi 23 was still open until 02.00. It seems that new laws / policies are made up to compensate for the rejected blanket midnight closing proposal. It is very sad indeed that part of the fun will be taken away from both local consumers and from tourists.

Yo dave i think we should have a re-think about advertising the fact that pattaya is open 24-7, 1 they might clamp down 2 all the punters will be here moving in on our fun 3 lack of lbfm's resulting from no.2 just a thought what do you reckon??? Can I still get a beer in, say, Pattaya after one o'clock? So do people still sit around drinking beer outside the supermarkets after the bars have closed in Chaweng? The reduced licencing hours really upped the tone of the place!

winle
Don't know if you were out last night DaveThailand, but walking street and all other Soi's were shut at 1:30 and there was such a heavy police presence they were actually telling farang to "go back hotel" "go sleep"! All disco's didn't even get the chance to open, let alone close down... Groups of girls hanging around outside disco's were handcuffed and taken away by police... This seems terribly coincidental after we spent the weekend posting about Pattaya being open all night and being able to drink. Call me paranoid, but I believe that certain authorities monitor this forum, and the crack down has begun. NB. Spoke to a friend in Chang Rai who claims its the "New Pattaya" with disco's and Bars open all night, with 10 girls to every farang... Perhaps we should have a look there.
