Lights don't use a great deal of electricity. If you're really concerned, buy them some LED bulbs. A 7w LED is the equivalent of a 60w traditional bulb, and will run for around 140 hours on a single unit of electricity.

T.I.T. Frightened of bad spirits. S.O.P. Even 5 watt LEDS which are widely available are exceedingly bright, and cheaper that 7 watt ones.

What SB says + it's not your business what they do with their electricity.

PS

Never seen that problem, nobody I know sleeps with the light on.

Perhaps they're used to prison; I hear they leave the lights on in their clinks, too. [emoji39]

Quite common, even to seeing( and hearing) a businesswoman in a Bangkok hotel being quizzed by reception about it.

Was in a good quality hotel but could not sleep because the TV in the room next door was so loud. Eventually called reception and it was a sales lady from a reputable company who was in the room.

Apparently she was scared of the dark and slept with the TV on full blast and every light in the room on.

it is my BUSINESS when my money pays pays for it ..... the wife goes to electric company to pay the bill

but with my cash .....

It's probably costing you at most about 50 baht a week. If that's too much, get some cheaper bulbs like I suggested.

When my missus comes out to cab with me when i am returning from leave and going to work in the early hours. She has to walk down a sort of gangway about 50 metres long next to the river, She brings a torch , one of those hard edged Thai Shilale Type wooden sticks and a couple of our dogs with her and then legs it back to the house when I am in the cab

Here nobody sleeps with light on.

It happens that my wife falls asleep with light and TV on "accidentally",

I could not close an eye in such circumstances.

While not all family members are back home in the dark an outdoor light will be on.

Why? Afraid of ghosts when coming home through the yard tongue.png

Install some Feng Shui Bagua Mirror's around the homes key entry points. You know it makes sense!

Yep. If Im out with friends ( I do get out occasionally ) I start getting phone calls at about 11. It's not due to her worrying what Im getting up to, it's more that she's scared to be on her own at night.

I think it's because the entire family slept all together in one room when she was growing up.

On the occasion when she has had to stay on her own at night she has a night light. Bless her!

Simple.

Stop paying for it.

Then you won't have to worry about it, and can return to being so happy in your new found paradise. :)

The foundation of the Thai social fear of being alone or doing something alone.

Khon Diow.

To be deeply feared. rolleyes.gif

It's a sad society to observe.

Absolute grounds for divorce. Look fear in the eye, and it will cease to haunt you.

Open the curtains.

There is so much light pollution in this country as it is that you could keep her happy for free.....

She isn't often hungry in the night.......

She never fears something and rather get aggressive than scared...only darkness and dead people....I always tell her to be afraid of the living not of the dead one.....

Dark at night in the house, but house is on 1 rai of land (40m by 40m) and we have 5 outside lights: on 3 corners and 2 above the entry gate...

I would rather have it all in the dark....

Is there a good reason why nobody here says kilowatt hour?

Takes longer to spell?

Not an SI unit?

Takes longer to spell?

kWh. Nope.

Not an SI unit?

Neither is "Baht", but we don't say 50 units of money.

Rolls back to OP .........

Why are you paying for all her relatives, seems a bit silly to me, did you do that in your home country?

Most of the " ladies" I've met in my earlier days here insisted to switch the light off...but I paid the (electricity) bill though the light stood on...

Just trying to keep things simple.

Tell them you saw papa in his songkran gear creeping around the house...they will not want to stay there anymore.
