Thailand changes its chief of staff and commander in Chief's more often than an underwear model changes , not being a supporter of this sort of military maneuvers, I just can't help having a swipe , is he related to anyone who is anyone, the pedigree would need to be from the right mould, surely. coffee1.gif

MILITARY RESHUFFLE
Another 'Eastern tiger' rises to top of Army
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Assistant Army chief Gen Thirachai Nakwanit has been appointed by a royal command as the next Army commander-in-chief.

Thirachai’s appointment was announced in the annual reshuffle list of 831 military officers. The list was publicized in the Royal Gazette on Friday.

The list also saw Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s brother, Assistant Army chief Gen Preecha Chan-o-cha, transferred out of the Army to become the next permanent secretary for Defence Ministry.

The reshuffle will take effect on October 1.

Preecha and Thirachai have been two strong candidates competing for the top post of the Army.

Thirachai is a military officer who has served in the Second Infantry Division, Royal Guards, known as the Burapha Phayuk. He is known to be favoured by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, the biggest Burapha Phayuk brother still in power.

Prime Minister Prayut himself and Interior Minister Anupong Paonchinda are also Burapha Phayuk generals. But Prayut’s brother, Preecha, has grown up in his military career outside the Burapha Phayuk circle. He got promoted on his career ladder mostly in the Third Army Area.

The reshuffle list also saw Joint Chief of Staff Gen Sommai Kaodira prompoted to the post of the supreme commander.

Navy Chief-of-Staff ADM Na Areenij was promoted to become the Navy chief.

Is there anyone here who wouldn't help their younger brother with a good job? Perfectly normal here and I'd bet most here would accept jobs from their Thai inlaws, if they weren't farmers

MILITARY RESHUFFLE
Prawit behind Theerachai's rise as new Army chief
PANYA THIOSANGWAN
THE SUNDAY NATION

BANGKOK: -- Deputy PM wanted general from Eastern Tigers to get the top job

A LAST-MINUTE move was made to prevent General Preecha Chan-o-cha, the prime minister's younger brother, from becoming Army chief.

Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who is in charge of the country's security, reportedly wanted a general from the influential Eastern Tigers clique of the Army to get the top job.

On August 20, a day before the annual military reshuffle list was submitted by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to His Majesty the King for endorsement, Preecha's name was crossed out in favour of General Theerachai Nakwanich.

Theerachai, like Preecha, is also an assistant Army chief but he hails from the Eastern Tigers, whose members also include Prayut and Prawit.

Preecha was promoted to the role of defence permanent secretary.

Prawit reportedly argued that someone who can be trusted and who hails from the Eastern Tigers, known in Thai as "Burapha Phayak", should be Army chief during this transitional period, as the National Council for Peace and Order pushes hard for reform.

In a related development, General Sommai Kaoteera was named the new Supreme Commander as expected.

Another noteworthy promotion was that of Lt-General Kampanart Ruddit, the commander of First Army Region and the new assistant Army chief.

Since the May 22 coup last year, Kampanart has played an active role in monitoring and cracking down on anti-coup and anti-monarchist elements in Bangkok and the central region.

The central region is under the First Region Army command, which played an instrumental role in last year's Prayut-led putsch.

Lt-General Theppong Tippaya-chan was named the new commander of the First Army Region.

In another surprise reshuffle, Admiral Na Areenij was named the new Navy commander over favourite Admiral Narongpol na Bangchang.

The reason given for the decision not to promote Narongpol, an assistant Navy chief, to the top post was that he studied at a navy academy in Germany and not in Thailand.

It was reported that the top Navy post has always been occupied by a commander who graduated from the Royal Thai Naval Academy.

Narongpol had to settle for the job of deputy Navy commander.

No doubt the sycophants will be in here soon saying "see, he didn't choose us brother!" Even though his brother still got a cushy position and this guy is Prayuth's eastern tiger mate! Cronyism and nepotism is ok as long as it isn't Thaksin doing it eh lads?

Research the eastern tigers about their activities near the Cambodian border. Makes for very interesting reading! Might explain some of the vast wealth of these guys....

Ohh that's alright then perfectly normal, nothing hypocritical about the present leaders of this country openly indulging in what might reasonably be construed as a blatant disregard for their much vaunted policy of stamping out corruption, something they have been quite vocal about and actually cited as one of the main reasons for the coup and overthrow of the legitimate government...

Where there any other candidates?

As always, family, friends, former class mates, and same faction are to be trusted in preference to "outsiders".

The skill lies in being in power at the right time and making the right moves to keep all your allies "on-side".

Mess that up and you upset the apple cart as Yingluck found out when doing her brother's bidding without making sure everyone was happy and got something.

Bit like Old Etonians and public school types in Britain, or Skull and Bones or similar frats in the US.

However it's dressed up, the "ruling class" make sure they stay where they are.

So they have a Commander in Chief, a Supreme Commander, several Assistant Chiefs and a Permanent Secretary for Defence - all uniformed Generals.

A remarkably complicated chain of command !

Frankly, it is ok n my opinion as it happen everywhere.

Take the USA for example, where you probably think has no corruption and it is a real pain in the arse for Thailand with all its moaning.

Jeb Bush v Hilary Clinton is just a coincidence?

George W was the most talented guy for the job?

As for the Uk and the cronyism going on there!

I know jack shit about US corruption and care even less, what I do care about is blatant hypocrisy and the fact you think it is ok is neither here nor there, it does however say a lot about you, maybe you have gone native....

What is absolutely glaringly obvious is the Junta are preaching one thing then doing another, problem is they are not even intelligent enough to be subtle about it

What has that got to do with the price of eggs, bit random innit, have I hit a raw nerve??

Does living in Nakhon Nowhere rather than Pattaya affect your ability to work out what is acceptable and what isn't, perhaps leads to a less developed sense of right and wrong or maybe a propensity for believing bullshite so long as it is from a pooyai or high ranking Thai??

ps. you might want to do a bit more editing as you comment don't make too much sense but probably better to wait till you are sober..
