PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times) – In a robust defense of his frequent overseas visits, Cambodia National Rescue Party president Sam Rainsy emphasized the importance of the Cambodian diaspora, declaring it to be “one-million strong.”

“We all, whether living in Cambodia or abroad, belong to one unique Khmer family,” he wrote on his Facebook page on August 28 under a posting called “The Khmer Diaspora.”

Mr. Rainsy spent much of his adult life in France, where he moved when he was 16, before returning to Cambodia in 1992. Since then, he has left the country in self-imposed exile on numerous occasions.
