Thai Bottled Water... Is it Pure?

Does anyone know how they purify the bottled water you buy in Thailand? I am talking about the Singha bottled water and equivilent other brands.

Does it contain chlorine? Does it get filled with chemicals to clean it up? What is the source.... government tap water?

I want to know because I have tried making home brew many times (I have permission) and have tried different waters and yeasts and lots of differing methods but the yeast keeps getting killed, I have tried boiling both tap water and bottled water and still the same.

I am putting it down to the water because I have aslo done tests with just water, sugar and yeast to basically get ethanol (alcohol) but still the yeast doies fast. I am using all the correct methods that has worked many times for me back in the UK.

I would love to know what the big Thai breweries are using for their water.

Anyone have any idea?

The source for commercial bottled water is ordinary deep well water.

Just not from France but from Thailand tongue.png

This water is filtered mechanically incl. either reverse osmosis and/or UV desinfection.

The water is very low on minerals.

It surely not contains chlorine (my nose and taste are not that dead yet).

This is drinking water installation at our village school. It is fed with deep well water and/or collected rain water.

Basically the same as in the factories. Just much smaller in size.

The big filter housings are about 1.20m (?).

This is the UV desinfection,

The bright blue light in the center is a control window where you see the UV lamp through a strong filter.

(looking with bare eye to the lamp could kill your eyesight)

What did you add for minerals and vitamins to keep the yeast healthy?

I don't add them, there are enough nutrients in the wort to sustain the yeast production. I have never had to use them in the past and I never had a problem with my ferments.

Also thank you for that info KhunBENQ. Very informative.

Maybe in the past you used a water with minerals inside (European tap water), the bottled water is without minerals. Or you used a different yeast that has the minerals added (common). Generally if you ferment something you add a few minerals. It works without, but it ensure the yeast is healthy, strong and fast. If you ferment higher than 15 % I think you must do it. I fermented here normal apple juice + sugar with yeast for bread making: no problem. So it is not the local sugar. But just mineral free water and white sugar, I am not sure...try the brown organic sugar instead.

While you may have permission for home brewing, you'll have to get your information from other sources as discussion of home brewing here is discussion of illegal activities and not allowed.
