Progress on surrogacy cases queried
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- National Legislative Assembly (NLA) member Wallop Tangkananurak asked the Public Health Minister Dr Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn about the progress in enforcing the law on surrogacy clinics.

"Earlier, there were two cases, one was an Australian family and the other a Japanese family that had used illegal surrogacy services offered by the same doctor. However, there have been no updates, so I would like to know how the Public Health Ministry punished the doctor and the clinic," Wallop asked.

He also expressed concerns that from January to November last year, up to 100 gay couples from Israel had come to Thailand to use surrogacy services. It is now illegal for same-sex couples to have babies via surrogacy in Thailand under the Surrogacy Act.

Piyasakol responded to the query by saying that the Medical Council was considering revoking the doctor's licence, and that he believes the new Surrogacy Act is strict enough.

What does this surrogacy act say exactly?

I get it that they have decided to single out same sex couples (married or not) for special discrimination, but what are the rule for surrogacy for Thai nationals and opposite sex married foreigners? If allowed for Thais, what if one of the two is not Thai? Those are my queries.
