Moment ‘Mafia Siam’ was seized outside MRT Sutthisan

BANGKOK: -- Police yesterday arrested “Mafia Siam,” the most hated man on Thai social media at the moment, over several counts of physical assault, including his recent attack of a woman on an MRT train.

Thirty-eight-year-old Weerapan Inthawong, a Laos national, was tracked down and arrested at Sutthisan MRT yesterday evening after a woman filed a complaint with police that he punched her on an MRT train Friday morning, police said at a press conference today.

The victim, whose identity was withheld, said the attack took place after Weerapan accused her of stepping on his feet when they got on the train at Hua Lamphong station. He then reportedly punched her and threatened to kill her, forcing the victim to leave the train at the next station and seek help from security. [read more...]

By Coconuts Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- A woman, who was allegedly punched and kicked by a male passenger on an MRT train, is using social media to try and track down evidence of the attack.

The thread on Pantip titled, "My female friend got punched on MRT," has become the most discussed topic across the Thai realm of social media as more and more witnesses and photos turn up on the thread.

The thread, which was written by a friend of the victim who chose to remain anonymous, explains that at about 7:30am on Friday her friend was reportedly attacked for no reason.

"While my friend was entering the train, a man bumped into her at her side, so she avoided him." the user said. "Then he started insulting her. She looked at him, and he said 'What are you smiling at?' The guy then pushed her and accused her of stepping on his feet. He beat her and then he hung onto a pole and tried to kick her!"

I like it, I like it a lot :)

Funny how the Thai police ignored that assault and carry on as if it didn't happen... I saw another video of a guy who did something terrible, forget what it was.. Maybe a rape , and while he was on the ground with hands cuffed behind his back a member of the public walked over and soccer kicked him in the face... :)

Police didn't care in that case either

‘Siam Mafia’ Punching Rampage Ends in Arrest
By Khaosod English

BANGKOK — “Do you know who I am?” a very angry man asked again and again in videos filmed of him harassing people throughout Bangkok.

We do now, police answered today, as they paraded a subdued version of the very angry man, whose random assaults drew attention on social media and prompted one of his alleged victims to step forward and whack him in the head as amused police looked on.

Weerapan Inthawong, a 38-year-old gambler from Laos, is the same man who’s become known online as “Siam Mafia” after he was seen antagonizing strangers – chiefly teens and women – and introducing some of them to his fists at locations throughout the capital, police said.

Captured in on film bullying and threatening people while repeatedly asking if they knew who he was, the man seen in social media was a swaggering tough guy. After being arrested yesterday at the Sutthisan subway station, Weerapan today was sheepish and submitted meekly to a few smacks delivered by a woman he’s accused of assaulting.

Anger as police arrest 'Siam Mafia', file assault charges
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A 38-year-old Laotian man - known among Thai social media as the "Siam Mafia" thug after footage of him allegedly attacking a woman on a Bangkok subway went viral - has been arrested.

Apart from the charge of illegal entry to Thailand and the above assault charge, Weerapan Inthawong, who was arrested at the Sutthisan metro station on Tuesday evening, also faces a separate charge of stealing another woman's iPhone, said Pathumwan superintendent Pol Col Jarut Sarutayaporn.

Although the social media claimed Weerapan had intimidated and assaulted several people in the Siam Square area, Jarut said a police probe found Weerapan had committed only three attacks. They were; the September 4 subway assault; the August 10 stealing of a female massager's iPhone; and the August 12 assault of 17-year-old boy at Siam Paragon Mall.

BANGKOK: -- A man who allegedly assaulted a woman in the underground train and whose bullying exploits became a subject of widespread criticism in the social media has been held in police custody.

The 38-year old Laotian suspect, Veeraphan Inthawong aka Siam gangster, was apprehended by police on Tuesday. He was presented to the media at the metropolitan police bureau on Wednesday.

A complaint was lodged against the suspect with Pathumwan police by a victim, Ms Wallapa Trakulpraelai, who said she was assaulted by the suspect in the underground train at Hua Lampong terminal.

Police alleged that Veeraphan was accused of using a bottled water to smack at the face of a 17-year old teenager in Siam Paragon shopping mall on August 12. A video clip showing the suspect intimidating the victim also went viral in the social media.

Veeraphan offered his apology to his victims claiming that he had psychological problem and easily provocative. He claimed to be a garment merchant in Vientiane and occasionally arrived at Bobae market to buy garments for sale at home.

Police charged him of illegal entry and assaults.

The women should have been allowed to kick in the cojones, ups forgot he dont have any ...

Amazing no men could take him out when they see him assault women in MRT ...

Why is that exactly? It seems no one helps each other.

I am double furious now that I read she was 17 years old.

Onlookers probably assumed it was husband and wife fighting etc

I've seem people fighting and even the police don't want to get involved in a domestic violence here unless it's really serious injuries

Maybe that is the question? Did she ask for help? I have known more than one Thai woman who was more than willing to assert her position if provoked.

Maybe it was good her brothers weren't there to help?
